NYT propshaft for 300GE

Has anyone used NYT prop shafts and are they any good?  My front prop shaft has developed play and the time and effort required to replace them makes the purchase of after market worth considering.  My plan was to get the NYT and then send the original for refurb in my own time.

I don't know NYT.

The G-Class (W460/W461/W463 and later) uses multiple propshafts:

  • Gearbox-to-transfer case
  • Transfer case to rear axle
  • Transfer case to front axle (the front one is a frequent wear item) - this is yours

Common issues include U-joint (universal joint) wear, vibration at speed, clunking on acceleration, and binding—especially on lifted vehicles where the front shaft angle becomes too steep. Regular greasing of the joints and slip joint (every 6,000 miles, more often if used off-road) is recommended. Worn U-joints or imbalance are typical vibration sources.

OEM Mercedes shafts are expensive. Aftermarket or remanufactured options exist, and some owners use upgraded double-cardan (constant-velocity style) front shafts when the vehicle is lifted more than about 4 inches to reduce vibration and binding.

These companies appear regularly in owner forums and review sites for quality work, balancing, custom lengths, and commercial/classic applications:

It's just a propshaft!  Surely any that is still in business will be OK, until your original is restored.  It would definitely be better than the current one with play in it.
