16" wheel and bridgestone Dueller on 350 cdi, any impression ?
Hi,
I' m , Waiting to receive my "new" G 350 cdi, !!
Just to know if someone has experiences with the the bridgestone Dueller h/t 869 in 16" size, for on-road use,
I' ve already owned another 350 a few years ago , with the Yokohama geolander h/t non the 18" wheels.
Just thinking if i will notice lotta of differences with the Dueller on 16" , maybe worst on road feling
Thanks
Lorenzo
I can not comment on your tyre choice but I have driven the 350 both on 16-inch as well as 18-inch wheels, both on the factory tyres. On the typical UK B-road, the 16-inch is my preferred choice, the 18-inch has less understeer.
Hi Lorenzo,
I have run the Dullers in 18 inch for about two years, OK good on road and passable off road, did have bad under steer in comparison to my current tyre. I know a few members have had the 16 inch and have had no major problems. Will you be going off road much?

Always remember that the more rubber you have between wheel rim and tarmac (in thickness, so to speak), the less stress there is on the steering, suspension, hubs, wheel bearings, etc. Not to speak of possible wheel damage.
The "loads" created by shocks/impacts due to road irregularities to these components are far far greater than vehicle weight itself.
If this doesn't make sense, jump off the roof of your G with your shoes on, onto the road surface next to it. That'll be the low profile tyre effect.
If you survive, do the same again but this time jump onto a couple of mattresses or a bouncy castle. That'll be a typical 75 profile tyre.
Not only with G's, but also with normal saloon cars, those with the big alloys and low profile tyres are always the ones with knackered steering racks, ball joints, shocks, etc.
The wider the tyre, the higher the risk of aqua planing as well.
And higher profile tyres also make for a much more comfortable ride.
To finally condemn low profiles, higher profiles generally provide better tyre grip during braking, due to front tyre deformation, as a result of load transfer, providing an advantage in this case, in the form of elongation of the contact patch.
Ok so a 75 section is perhaps too much of a compromise in terms of sidewall deflection during cornering. I'd say a 65 or 70 section is just about right for general every day use.
Thanks.. I'm driving the new 350 with 16" since two days and the first impression is similar to your idea... Maybe 18" are not necessary
