1993 300GE SWB - Paintwork / Shocks / Leather
Afternoon all, a few questions for you knowledageble people.
1 - Paintwork - A couple of small areas have a little bubbling which I want to have sorted. I know a very good body shop but was just wondering, the paintwork has held up so well and is in excellent condition everywhere else, is there anything info specific to the G Wagon that I should pass on to the body shop? Its metallic black if that makes any difference.
2 - Shocks - The rear shocks are a little worn so would like to refresh the suspension. Again, any recomendations or adivce. It is only used on road so would a set suplied for example by Europarts be acceptable?
3 - Headlining - Anywhere I can get a new headlining ready to fit? It has a sunroof.
4 - Full leather interior, may want to refresh drivers seat - I'm guessing look for a good used one, go to a good local trimmers? Are the front seats used in any other mercedes models?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

The appropriate primer/ undercoat colour is on the paint colour plate on the front bulkead, as is the main paint code. Also check the areas of the join-lines on the read quarter panels for hairline cracks.

The Sachs items from ECP are the correct OEM part.

Dealer ?

No, the seats are G specific. A good local trimmer is probably your best bet. But, if the leather is not cracked, you can get them rubbed-down and re-coated, and they will then look like new.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Where are the rust bubbles?
Seats from a w201 [the 190] and its successor the first C class w202 can be adapted to fit, E class seats are too wide.
Arnie - hopefully you are reading this. I also need some rear shock absorbers for my 1991 SWB G300 petrol automatic and I looked at ECP and other sites for Sachs shocks but they all seem to have at least two versions that they say fit.
Do you happen to know which Sachs shocks I need?
Threy offer two versions: One for vehicles with 'standard' suspension and the other for those with 'off-road' suspension. If you wnat to replace like with like, go for the 'standard' suspension. The 'off-road' version will probably be firmer.
Click on the 'Fitment Detail' tab to see which is which.
You can find more details from the Sachs (ZF) online catalogue here:

Many thanks Arnie.
That's the shocks sorted then - now on to the springs (several versions of those made by Sachs available). Why can't they make it simple?
In MB code the originals were most likely 2x yellow stripes, but I don't know what that is in relation to a Sachs p/n or whether indeed sachs were teh OEM for the springs.
Thank you, very helpful.
