Recently I had a auto gearbox problem with my 1998 Steyr Puch the reverse gear failed, on thinking about the car over the last 2/4 months driving I did have a couple of times the transition had held in a gear and wouldn't change up until I blipped the throttle and I had reverse slow to take up, was this the tell tell signs of a future failure?
I had rang all the local transmission workshops in my area but they didn't know what a 461 or "G" was, and couldn't give me a worsted case price they would repair the box without a limit on price with 3/6 months warranty or 6000 miles.
I searched the GWOA site and found a recommendation of "Martin Lowe" in Barnsley rang him and was surprised he knew about the "G Wagen" models and the type of box in my car.
Martin Lowe gave me the top price for transmission and torque overall and it could be a lower price depending on work done I agreed and my car was picked up from my house on a car transporter, the next week they rang and said I could pick my car up Thursday with the price.
They had fitted a exchange auto box and toque converter with 12 months warranty and unlimited miles, total cost £2880 most would say expensive but I'm keeping the car and wanted it right I didn't want to go down the second hand road, my auto box had metal contamination through the system and toque.
I could recommend this company they are clued up on G Wagen engine/transmission gear changing my car works on a vacuum system not a easy setup.
