Hi
I'm looking to change springs and shocks all round on my 88 230 GES.
Can't decide whether to stay with stock springs at the rear or go for slightly stronger.
I carry a fair bit of weight in the back (work tools etc.) and have a noticeable sag. Also tow a cattle trailer from time to time which obviously makes it worse. My dilema is do I stick with new standard (green) springs and hope that the newness will resvole matters or go for the next strongest colour only to find this gives problems in other areas like general handling and vibration issues. I don't want any extra lift. I'm aware that lifting can give driveline alignment problems and consequent vibtations which thankfully I don't suffer.
Your views would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Springs

I had a simular sagging problem with my 1989 280GES with 2 big lpg tanks fitted underneath, so I ordered standard new SWB rear springs from M.R. Holland, but when I fitted them I still found it sagging, I rang M.R. Holland they suggested I try LWB springs so they sent me a set to try. Although when they arrived they are actually shorter than the SWB springs when you fit them they raised the rear by about 20~25mm which is just what I needed, M.R. Holland then gave me a refund on the SWB springs. The ride is a little firmer but totaly acceptable. :)

230 GES stronger rear springs.

Hi
Thanks for the prompt reply. Good info. I think I'm going to opt for orange with one band, which are two colours up from green. I think these were fitted to LWB 500's as standard. I found on the benzworld site, a useful post by TH (July 1 2003) detailing spring change issues. There is also a useful reminder to change the brake proportioning spring according to the chart in the workshop manual if ride height is changed.
Thanks
David
