My petrol 280 is leaking from the oil cooler (coming from the cooler itself not the pipes)

Is there any pattern parts or is it possible to use an oil cooler off a different model/repair the current one?

I assume a Mercedes replacement would be eyewatering?

MB part is BIG money. Their are aftermarket oil coolers for the T1/T2 Merc vans (? somebody confirm?) which just need the mounting brackets moved slightly.

yes that is right eddie ,the brackets have to be altered to suit but it is the same cooler rad just the brackets are different

the biggest problem is the connections with the alloy rad fittings stripping their threads and leaving the alloy deposited inside the steel nuts so when you screw onto your nice new oil cooler you destroy the threads on that one also -nice

Roger that Axel!

It is virtually impossible on older engines to get the oil cooler pipes off without destroying the alloy cooler threads.

Is there a trick to cleaning out the threads on the steel oil pipe fitting?

Unless you driving it very hard or planning overland trip? Why not bypass it, until a second hand unit shows up?

Re: 280ge oil cooler leaking

if you have a local high pressure hose shop, (ie pirtek) just connect your two hoses together, for the northern climate we are in you don't need your oil cooler, check out my picture for wot i did to run the engine with the oil lines connected to each other

This looks around the same sort of size/fitment.

Re: 280ge oil cooler leaking

Thanks Axel re the threads, my mechanic was saying about that on the phone, nothings ever simple ey!

Adrian, the car is with my mechanic at the moment and I'm away, I'll get some pictures this weekend if I'm back.

Scouse, I'm in no rush for the car back so going to get it done now with one of the coolers off the vans I think!
