460 series 500 GE AMG
I am not sure that this is a modification or a fully MB-supported AMG conversion.
In issue 17 of the G-Wizz there was a feature of what the owner claimed to be one of four 460 series 500 GE produced by AMG. The story, as told by the owner, who back then at least was a GWOA member, read:
"As far as I can gather Mercedes commissioned AMG to install their 5 ltr V8 into 4 G-Wagens during 1987, HRH Mohammed Al Maktoum (to follow his race horses no doubt) originally purchased the one now in my possesion from SMAC in Southend..."
At the time the article was made the owner had painted the car in "McLaren colours" as see in the pictures and offered the car for sale for £ 10,000.
Can somebody confirm that this is a genuine AMG car and does anybody out there know whether the then owner managed to sell the car or for how much and where is the car now????
Why would they have converted right hand drive?

Apparently the Arab prince was a seasonal resident in tht UK, where he was a regular in the races scene.....
The prince is still a more than seasonal resident in the UK.
You are correct in your assumptions that it is to follow his race horses. I do a lot of work for a company called Darley in Newmarket that is owned by him. He also has a house up there.
Yeah and a big house at that, I supplied plant hire for that re-furb back in early 90's. There were 5 AMG rhd 500. Love to know where the one john had, loads amoney spent on that truck.
AMGs have distinctive aluminium rocker/cam covers with AMG on them ??
