Big pain!

Heater motor has blown and I understand this could be an 8 hour dashboard out job to complete.

Does anyone have any helpful hints/advice before I start?

Thanks

Rob

Yes, you are right... you have to dismantle half of the car. Being a GWOA member, I suggest that you contact the GWOA technical officer and buy the CD containing all the maintenance, service and workshop manuals for the G. For the price of 7 1/2 capuccinos you'll have all the advice money can buy.

Rob,

I have just finished reparing the fan motor on my 460. Perhaps my comments irrelevant for 461?

Its a long job but not overly difficult. Be careful on assembly to align the main heater box and the fan motor housing correctly as this affects the way the vent controls match the slotted trim in the cabin. There are 4 slotted adjuster screws on the sides of the biggest black box and the second biggest black box!

Good luck.

Ahh

Does this mean if not alighned that they leak air even when vents closed..As when my vents are closed I still get cold air albeit only mild through the vents. I have no documentation as to whether the motor has been replaced of not

Re: 461 Heater Blower motor

Hi Rob. Just done my 460 blower motor. The following should help with your 461. Disconnect the battery ( obviously ). Remove both front seats for better access ( only eight setscrews ). Drain off coolant outside car at hose connection into cylinder head before dismantling matrix hoses. Make clear diagrams of all disconnected electrical connections to save a lot of head scratching on re-assembly. If you were good with meccano when you were a laddie then this will be a doddle  See Commercial parts for your G in General Technical
