Hi,

I have recently become the proud owner of my first little truck !

A 1986 280GE petrol auto RHD model.

I heard a rumour their was a wise gentleman on here whom maybe able to shed some light upon it's history ? (Not mentioning any names but Mr Helme, Maybe ?)

It appears to have been off radar approx 10 years.

It has only 2 previous owners upon its V5 (I am obviously the 3rd) one of the owners was a lady whom lived in Bridgenorth.

Its Reg is = C492 NAW

VIN = WDB46023327046059

She has had work done without a doubt as the entire cosmetic condition to body work is immaculate (who ever did that did a sterling job) but some other bits have been sadly rushed, botched and ignored. (so I am slowly towards making her special again)

Any information on here history would be most welcome.

Pictures attched.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Neil.

Re: Any Clues On History ?

I have undone the two philips head screws down through the top of the orange lense.

I can't get them off mate ? (I gave them a gentle tap around with a rubber end of screw driver but they are well on there ! I don't wanna break em so am I doing something wrong or do they just need a bit of welly ?

Re: Any Clues On History ?

They may have already been previously broken and someone has glued them on?

Extract the two screws completely if you can and then with the edge of a credit card try to free the lens from the slot in the rubber base, which holds it.

The internal plastic reflector assembly, into which the lens retaining screws fit is prone to breaking or loosing  the captive square nut.

Perhaps get some newer, clear-lens replacements before forcing anything. The dealer price is £29 for a complete lamp and lens.

Re: Any Clues On History ?

You have a PM

Front Indicators will be spinning captive nuts i reckon as said before, maybe have to grip them from below, do be careful as stated the internal of the lamps and lens break easily when old and brittle..

Careful too with the rear vents, they are on 4 thin plastic pens attached to the outer vent and again these snap off easily..

These push into 4 plastic grommets which should also have 4 small metal cages on the pegs before they go into the grommet to stop then coming out easily, hard to get in, harder to get out in one piece, but needs doing...i guess they will create extra noise and water ingress when moving if on the wrong way?

Hi Gav,

Your help to me has been invaluable ! I send my sincere thanks (you have restored my faith in hunan kindness)

Yes I am frightened to mess with these parts as I am in fear of breakage.

Looks like the other chap pulled out of the purchase. (I can only pray that he did not do this because he has seen something sinisiter which I have missed and just made a huge mistake in bringing my little truck home !)
