Hello all.

I still have the G350 and still miss my SWB G500, however, am looking for a SWB G under the 10k barrier - in fact, the goal is to spend circa £7,500 max.

I've been looking at a few on Autotrader and have watched/bid on a few on EBay but also wanted to check that no one on here was selling. As before, I'd rather buy from someone within the extended G-community than a dealer or buying blind via the sources above.

cheers

Cheers Spider. :)

I've been lurking but haven't posted in awhile.

It doesn't seem like anyone is selling, nor knows of any good Gs for sale... So it looks like I'll be flying blind again!

Re: Anyone Selling?

May get a flood of G's, just before the end of September, but usually people are buying just before the summer in preparation for winter and fixing them up. Well that used to be the case. I thought you still had your G500 SWB. Hope it went to a good home?

How are you getting on with your 350? Has it gone back for the 'required enhancements' or did you manage to dodge that bullet?

Re the search for your new G - tried the usual suspects? G Wagen, etc? You may like to drop Eddie (needamerc) a note and get him to spy out the land for you? Also if you want - you can drop me a PM with what you are looking for and I will keep my eyes open for you - more eyes on the target the great chance of hitting it! wink. YOu looking for a 460/461/463 SWB or any G upto your budget?

The 500 was sold a few months after the 350 arrived - it was a challenge to justify keeping it. It went to a good home and the new owner appreciated it for what it was - quite a rare animal in SWB form.

As for what I'm looking for now - I'm quite open to options - the only provisos being: must be SWB and must be on budget. I cannot justify having two expensive G-wagons on the driveway, hence the G500 being sacrificed.

Re: Anyone Selling?

Well, it's under your maximum budget - and who knows maybe "or near offer" will bring it down to your ideal budget. I know nothing about the G - it just popped up on my screen today as I am also on the lookout, but would prefer an automatic.

Good luck.

Thanks Mark - I know you shouldn't be too picky when you're buying used but Red is one of the few colours I have ruled out.

Nothing wrong with being picky. I've been looking for a year and haven't found the ONE.

I agree - red not a great colour.

If you let me know what you're looking for, I'll keep my eyes open.

Have you seen this one:-

The vendor seems to have some mixed reports when I Googled them but if it is local to you, and on budget, might be worth a look?

Re: Anyone Selling?

That shade schwartz-blau which isn't a metallic is very common on w124 models but very rare indeed on a G-wagen; my guess is that this car was probably manufactured in 1991/2 and hung around in the saleroom for perhaps as long as 2 years b4 being sold. A £25 cheque to Milton Keynes will give you the correct manufacture date but I think late 1993 is unlikely. Its a very nice colour though

I really like red. My G is the second red MB I've bought. smiley

Re: Anyone Selling?

Thanks Aero,

I saw that ad some time ago - and although they are in Essex, it's quite an out of the way part of Essex (I'm between Brighton and Eastbourne).

I think I'm living in a parallel universe as £13,999 seems an awful lot of money to me. Having said that, the good ones are creeping up in price and there are a couple of 463s on sale at £20,000!?!?

Best,

Mark

Re: Anyone Selling?

Colour is simply a matter of personal taste - there are no right or wrong choices... although saying that, the gold wrapped G-wagon at Merc World was an awful looking thing! wink

Mark, I paid circa £35,000 for my 2001 SWB G500 and sold it for the same price over a year later. It was in excellent condition but even so, I still spent money on it.

Prices have seemed pretty constant for awhile and there will always be people trying to chance their arm with inflated asking amounts. The biggest issue is sorting the good ones from the bad ones and this gets even more challenging when you have an owner who thinks their G is mint but it isn't and it hasn't been maintained.

As I'm sure Spider1V will tell us - that's because it had a proper engine in it!

He may say that but I'd wager it was because there is only crica eight RHD SWB G500s... so it was a very rare example. wink

I fear Spider may be an American in disguise... he defacto answer to every question is: MORE DISPLACEMENT! cheeky

Re: Anyone Selling?

This one seems to fit most of your requirements:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C514223

SWB, 300 engine, under your bottom budget (so a bit left over for the tidying up).

Been on sale for a couple of months now.

Re: Anyone Selling?

Saw that one as well and the rust put me off - I'd rather spend more money on a good car, than pay less and spend to put it right. I'm sure I'll end up paying more money and still having to do some jobs but the moment I see body rust in the places that G has it, I start to hear the chiching of bank notes leaving my account in rapid succession!

I don't believe anyone said 'red tones are disgusting' and the two examples you posted certainly aren't wink

The solid red cab is my favourite but I don't have the benefit of living in a warm, sunny, country like hus55 does! Here in Raingland, the weatherproof hardtop and a dull colour suits me just fine.

Re: Anyone Selling?

fred your right mate...

actually they are nice 460 steps , but spoil the 463... my wife will not remove them because her parents cannot enter the G without them [ its actually a good reason to remove them ! :)))) ]

i hope to get the original 463 steps and AMG flares fitted by the end of the year.

I know mate and you pulling my leg isn't an issue yes

I also agree that colour comes second to condition; for instance, if a SWB 461 Professional in Red became available, I'd be on it like a child at an all you can eat ice cream buffet!

Are you sure you could cope with 88bhp? Might be a bit of a let down after your other G's? Even a 300 petrol might feel too tame for you?

Jason, I believe I will find the pace a little too tame; however, my plan is to either purchase one with a 606 conversion or work toward having the conversion done on whatever I purchase.

Time will tell but I imagine an original 88bhp is probably less than 70bhp now and although Gs aren't about outright speed, I dislike the feeling of mashing the pedal to the floor and very little happening.
