AUTO TRANS
Hi all, can someone please tell me who makes the auto's that are fitted to G wagens and Merc 300d series saloons. I read somewhere that they are made by ZF but i am unable to find anyone who can confirm this. I am thinking of putting a 300d engine into Range Rover and would like to use the matching auto if possible. If they are made by ZF then good chances that i can get it to bolt up to the RR transfer case without a custom adapter.
thanks.
HI
The auto box's used by Mercedes are made by: 1st generation ZF- 2nd generation in house - 3rd and 4th various so depending on engine and age it varies if you can be more specific i-e engine no/ i can match up a box for you
regards Terry
Hangover,
I would request that you fill your profile with the model and year of your G.
Thanks,
hi without engine no its difficult but the external difference would be the control pressure control on the 1st generation is a metal rod and on the 2nd generation a cable
allso you have to remember the modulating pressure control and vacumme control for 1st gear
regards terry
ps
if you can obtain the engine or even chassis no of the donor car i have the tech data and can better help you
or better still forget the range rover and get the superior G Wagen
woops seems i have upset him no reply :| but only the truth as i know it
Maybe has a hangover :P
Hi Terry, the only details i have is that it is a 300d from a 1981 w123 estate, i am able to pick one of these motors up quite cheap but it would easier if i can use the matching auto. By first generation, what years did they use a ZF box and would the saloons and estates use these as well.
thanks,
Nick.
