Does anyone know a non-main dealer source for a 100 A battery for a 460? According to my Merc dealer a new battery that fits the battery tray is only available on back order from Germany - at about £190!

Any thoughts are welcome,

Rupert

I spent ages looking for a 100ah battery for a 460 to no avail, exept 200 quid from merc. Ended up removing the small lip at the front of the battery tray next to the jack, with a small grinder and installing one of the big commercial ones out of a JCB. 8)

You don't necessarily have to fit the NATO type square battery. You can find 100Ah batteries in smaller sizes, but you will need to change the mounting bracket.

In fact a VARTA 75Ah battery as fitted to the 463 series will work just fine, especially on a petrol engine. The NATO 100Ah type is an old design and many 75Ah standard batteries will actually provide higher starting currents.

But if you want one of these big batteries, then £200 RRP is about the mark. I think that VARTA still manufacture them. Cannons Motor Factors in London (Clapham) supplied a VARTA one a few years back for £120.
