Bleeding Brakes 463 ABS
Does anyone know is it possible to change the Brake Fluid on a 463 using an easy bleed or similer, or does this upset the ABS?I presume one doesn't have to turn the ABS off?
thats a good question ,
I would like to know too
anyone
I did mine recently using an easy bleed system. It used the tyre pressure to drive it. I dropped the pressur eto 22 psi prior to doing it.
It is so easy using the thing you just like back and think of England while th fluid flows out. I discovered something interesting about the reservoir I didn't previously know. The reservoir is divided into 2 chambers both supplying fluid to front and rear systems, but these are separate from each other. Therefore when you bleed the system dry only one chamber is emptied. This is a safety feature clearly. If there was a catastrophic failur in the system whilst driving resulting in the loss of "all" the fluid there would still be enough to operate the brakes as only 1 chamber would be lost. It is done using a series of internal channels which are not noticible normally.
To drain mine I removed it from the master cylinder and tippoed it upside down and shock it and things like that...
I also did the diff lock fluid using the same bleeder .POP
Drain out all the old fluid first
great
so eezibleed and abs are compatible then,
good news
thanks
do'nt the front calipers have three nipples each, and if I am right how much extra does he charge per nipple,or is it some kind of "buy two get one free deal".He sounds ruthless.
Well I never checked to see if there were more than 1 nipple on the front, I'll check later. ....It would suprise me. I'm talking about 463 only can't comment on 460s. £80 is a rip off, I bought a bleed kit for £13.
I'm sure that the nipples are different sizes f/r 7-8 mm seems to ring a bell.
I have read somewhere about ABS and not turning on the key during bleeding too.... it's something that I managed not to do
Thats good news, was very worried the ABS would get upset by the Easy Bleed, though one mechanic told me never leave the ignition on while doing this(Why would you ?)Have used it to change the Difflock cylinders, will do the brakes soon. Are the back bleed nipples 7mm?Local Mercedes agent quoted £80 to do this job on the the grounds that the G had more complex brakes because it had TWO bleed nipples on the front caliper!Thought most things did!
