can you ID which year is this G ? and what should i expect ?

this is my first post here on the forum.
i didnt know where exactly should i post my question. but since its based on a technical question so i thought this is the place .Anyways , im looking to buy a G wagon , i found a really abused one for sale . ( pics attached )
i cannot identify the year of the vehicle so i thought you could help me out.basically my whole idea is to buy the car , and get a salvaged 1996 model and swap everything into this one... engine , tranny , cabin , etc.
i need to ID the one on the pics attached , and i need to know what am i facing here if i go forward with such a project , ive read there are some minor modifications to the chassis to be done ,... what else should i expect...
i will be needing your expertise .

The one you pictured is a 460 model which was produced from 1981- 1989 approximately. It's a 230 which is a 4 cylinder petrol engine.
In 1996 there were 2 models in production; 460 and 463 which had very different components and interiors.

If you look under the curb site front wheel arch you will find the chassis number stamped clearly on the side of the chassis, just behind the shock absorber. You may need to take a rag with you to clean the dirt off.
From the chassis number we will be able to tell you the history of the car.

It's a W460 and year of manufacture 1986 (That's a guess) But what is for sure is that this case of "G"Bola is TERMINAL !!! 
If you have access to a salvage 1996 463 model G Wagon then I would say that might be a much better project to try and put back on the road than trying to make a hybrid 460/463 out of the one in the photos.
How badly damaged is the 1996 463 and do you know what engine it has ?

TERMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS (you could buy a G63 bi turbo for less than the parts needed)
