door wirering?
Hi there...
maybe yo can help me out. I own a 1986 280GE and while doing some cleaning found some wirering going into the drivers side door towards the lock mechanism. Is this for the central locking?? If so it does not work...any ideas where to start first? Traced the wires to the fuse box.
Thx best rgds
Mike
you can tell if you have got central locking
look for two screws above the lock on the inside by the window

What year is your G??? It would greatly help if all members would be more specific when filling in their profile. Anyway.... Have you uncovered the door trim to see if the locking module is still there? What about the other doors and fuel flap, does the central locking work? By the tone of your question, it looks to me that none of the central locking works and that you just wondered whether the car was originally fitted with the system in the first place when you found those cables running to the lock mechanism.
So if you find the locking modules in all doors (you just have to remove the door's interior trim) it looks to me that the central locking control module is fried. Problem is that all the manuals that I have seen for the W460 series were of the very first models, when central locking was not available, even as an option. The W463 manual shows the electric diagrams and the mapping of all the electrics including the central locking system but everything might be in a completely different place than in your car.
See if the locking modules are there and come back to us. If they aren't it's likely your car was never fitted with central locking.
A much easier option is to get hold of the datacard of your G and check for the central locking code. It should be under "Special Version Codes" and code is X59.

The modules for the front doors are like plastic boxes, black in colour and about the size of a pack of cigarettes. They have the cables to one side and to the other they have like a wire hook wich activates the door lock. I would assume it works like an electromagnet that pulls/pushes the wire hook and this one activates the lock.
I have a pic at home of the culprit and I'll see if I can post it later today.
Saludos,
Here's the culprit!
It is made by Kiekert in Germany (they make most of this stuff for European cars)
That screw in the top left of the pic, the door handle one, Jesus, needs removing and replacing using copper ease. I had a troublesome one on mine and had to break it off and retap it. When I repaired all my cylinder barrel locks so they worked.
I all the doors lock properly it will come on for about 5secs then go off.
Jesus,
mine is a 86. Had all the drivers side door trim of and saw wires going to the door lock mechanism. So far only have done that side. What does the locking module look like? Looked for the 2 screws that G man mentioned and found them.
Thanks to both of you.

Mike
