Hi,

My Wagen has been in to the Bodyshop. I went to collect it day and was told that there’s a bit of a bit of a problem....

When you turn the Ingnition on the car indicators flash for 10secs then stop for 10secs before restating to flash. The engine starts so it’s doesnt appear to be the immobiliser.

The battery was removed during the body work and was flat when reinstalled and car had to be jump started.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on???

Thanks

Alex

Re: Flashing indicators

Not sure what vehicle you have? Early 463?

If so, probably momentarily connected the battery terminals the wrong-way round to jump start and this has damaged your alarm system - if you have one and if it was the MB, 3rd party version (MB Approved Alarm sticker on the window). Try to disconnect the alarm wiring plug connector from the top of the alarm unit  and see if your indicators still work normally.

If you don't have an alarm fitted, then perhaps something strange with the indicator relay, but can't imagine why it would cycle like that?

If you have the commonly-fitted Scorpion Alarm unit, then you may need to disconnect it to remedy the issue

see attached PDF

The violet/Black  wire and the Yellow/Red wire at the end of the long connector plug are the starter circuit and ignition switch (position III) respectively. They will need to be bridged.

Turn-off alarm (special key) so that it does not sound if its internal batteries are still good.

Disconnect long connector on the top of the alarm unit (under the rubber boot) and bridge the two wires (violet/Black  and Yellow/Red)   in the connector plug, by inserting a bent piece copper wire in the corresponding sockets. This will eliminate the alarm's immobiliser circuit from the starting system. Tape-up the connector with electrical tape and you should be good to go. If the alarm cannot be repaired, you may have to rejoin the two wires permanently by soldering for a reliable connection, or place a hidden switch there.

Re: Flashing indicators

Arnie thanks for the reply, it's a 1996 GES with a scorpion alarm.

Sorry to ask a basic question but where would I find the alarm unit?

Re: Flashing indicators

No standard position as they were fitted by the dealers. Try under the bonnet, somewhere on the rear bulkhead, near the brake servo.
