Over the last couple of weeks a slight rattle has developed on my G. It appears to be coming from directly under the drive selector and usually can only be heard when rolling along having let off the accelerator. As if when the engine and transmission is not under any strain. There is a half mile stretch of road down hill into the local village and rolling along at 40mph this noise is becoming very annoying (and a bit worrying). When I press the accelerator the noise usually goes. I have checked fluid level, looks clean and topped up and gearbox and transfer case mounts/bushes appear in good condition. The lever is moving as easily as it always has and shifts through the gears no problem. Any ideas of what this could be would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dennis

Re: Gear selector noise
Hmmm. Sounds like main shaft or layshaft bearings . These boxes have a magnetic sump plug I would dump all the oil out and see what is stuck to it and if the oil is full of metallic bits or it is clear . I changed the oil on one of these boxes recently and it had a large piece of selector cone spring stuck to the magnet .
