Hi there - new forum member and hopefully G owner this year based in Dublin, Ireland.

My G experience so far is a spot of off roading in a LHD 300GD SWB in France and absolutely loved it.

I'm currently in the market for a SWB RHD G pre-1989 that I can throw my kids / bikes / surfboards / work gear into, do trips up the mountains and out to the beach - a weekend warrior I can rely on.  I'm not interested in a fixer-upper as I don't have the time or frankly, the skills. If it's been fitted with motorway-friendly gearing then all's the better.

If anyone's got anything suitable for sale and either is or will be in the Dublin area (don't know if there's a meet on this year) let me know please. Also happy to hear from UK vendors / other parts of Ireland, but work/family precludes trips to go and look at cars far field...

I figured this would be the place to start looking! Excuse the ignorance I've undoubtedly demonstrated in the above message...

Cheers

M

Re: Howdy

Welcome Martino and good luck in your search.

Make sure you have a good look at a SWB version before making a final decision. I have a SWB myself and it' surprising how little "luggage" space there is especially if you are using the back seats for humans. One bike might be OK but not sure about bikes (plural) or surfboards. I guess you could fit a bike or surfboard carrier though so could be OK.

SWBs are nice though.

Re: Howdy

Thanks Mark. My 'urban' setting precludes anything bigger - its a nightmare getting parking at the best of times and an LWB would be pushing my luck. I'm thinking roof / bike racks. Or just ditch the kids.

Re: Howdy

A long wheel base one is still short by typical car standards: 4.68m

ignoring the spare wheel on the back, it's the same footprint as a C-class

Re: Howdy

One of the Halfords type cycle carriers hung out over the spare wheel will take two or even three bikes, the w460 has a bigger "boot space" too compared to a w463 as the rear seat is less cushioned and more upright. If you still need more space put a roof rack on.

Re: Howdy

Welcome. I would suggest not throwing the kids in with the bikes and gear cheeky, but other than that, sounds like a great plan!
