I am planning a get together near Dublin for the weekend of February 14th and 15th next. The accomodation base will be the Lucan Spa Hotel and my place (across the road). Campers welcome at mine (electric hook up possible). Meeting up from Friday night the 13th, last departures Monday morning the 16th. An option is a Barbecue at my place on Saturday night to avoid trying to get restaurant reservations on Valentines night. Saturday and Sunday could be spent exploring the Dublin/Wicklow Mountains with the possibility of deep end off-roading if there is the appetite. Very light off-roading an option in my field, test diff-locks etc. Dublin ferry port is 30/40 minutes away, Rosslare, Belfast and Larne are all about 2 hours away. Liffey Valley Shopping Centre is 5 minutes away, Dublin city centre about 30 minutes. The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is Irelands number one attraction these days. Lucan and nearby areas have accomodation to suit all budgets within reasonable taxi fares of the base at the Lucan Spa Hotel. Also some excellent restaurants nearby to suit all palettes.

So who's on?

Eddie.

Of course I'm in. I'll be doing the Guinness Storehouse tour option followed by a couple of scoops. Probably best do the driving thing day before the Guinness expedition.

Re: Irish Meet February 2015

I have a boot load of spare parts collected over a couple of years - is there any interest in me bringing these along for the Dublin meet - its a bit of effort for me and I'd have to take my LWB. Thought a swap meet might be of interest or exchange on a pint basis. I'm not particularly interested in the e-bay route and I don't know how to set up a pay pal thing.

Parts include (from memory)

2 X H4 Headlights, 463 headlight surrounds, 2 x 463 front seats, 463 Steering wheel, Ricaro Seat rails from a MB 190, 2 x front seat bases from a SWB, 4 pairs of headlamp guards, heating console from a W463, some small misc parts from a W460, original steel wheel from a W460, pair of original Alpine Stereos, another set of headlamps, Clutch plate and casing, cylinder head, alternator, etc.

The only problem is if I bring them to Dublin, I ain't bringing them home again - anything not swapped for a pint stay's behind. smiley

Thoughts ?

Re: Irish Meet February 2015

Lucan Spa Hotel rates for the February gathering are as follows.

All rates include breakfast.

€55 per single room (approx £44)

€79 per twin or double room (approx £63)

€99 per triple room (1x double bed and 1x single bed, approx £79)

€109 per family room (1x double and 2x single beds, approx £87)

Phone with credit card details to secure these rates.

Reference "G-Wagen Club"

+353-1-6280494.

Ask for Betty, but whoever is on duty (usually Mary or Shannon) should be able to help. If there is any uncertainty, ask them to check the reservation in my name (Eddie Gilmartin)  for February 14th.

These rates are valid from Friday 13th through Sunday 15th of February 2015 and are not available online. Availability of room types can't be guaranteed. Remember Saturday night is "Valentines" so book early.

The Lucan Spa Hotel is a small, family run hotel. Don't expect The Ritz. Rooms are old fashioned and clean. Food is excellent. Craic will be mighty :-)

Re: Irish Meet February 2015

Hi Eddie,

just booked the hotel for the Friday and Saturday nights and very much looking forward to the meet.

I'll be accompanied by my wife Tracey and baby Florence.

Thanks for organizing, I know it takes a bit of time to pull these things together. So what are the numbers looking like?

Can't wait to see everyone and putting some faces to avatars... smiley

Great news Shaun. I look forward to meeting you.

It's too early to be certain of numbers yet but I think we will get a good turn out. There are even hints that we might get some visitors from Holland. I'm pressing all the buttons I know of.

Myself and Barney (of the The Big Blue Shed) did a reconnaissance drive today in the Wicklow Mountains National Park. We looped through the mountains for a 100 mile (160km) round trip out of Lucan. Lovely. 5 hours including a stop for lunch in the Hollywood Inn. I think members will enjoy the run. No car bending stuff. Lots of gorgeous scenery and some green lanes.

I will post some video later as a taster.

Eddie.

Hi Eddie,

Just noticed this thread now, and as I am only up the road it would be bad manners not to turn up.Re. your exploits in the Dublin mountains do you have some secret knowledge of that area as we were led to believe that it is socially un-acceptable to drive in that area, unless you were a member of Leinster 4x4 or similar and had permission fron Coilte, although we were previously using quad bikes up there, which are frowned upon.If you are doing any more reconn.in that area again I woule be happy to be invited along.

Great to hear we'll have an international contingent on site, it'll keep things interesting, laugh.

Sounds like you have a good route planned in the Dublin mountains. I've enjoyed running around them for the last few years on and off  with IRMA, great views/scenery.

Looking forward to the teaser vid now...

Hi Andy. Unfortunately no inside track with the forestry boys at Coillte so it was a light enough run today. I do have friends in the Leinster 4x4 club so could look at that for deep end options. Video from today uploading now. Will add link when it's ready. Looking forward to meeting you again in February. Eddie.

Re: Irish Meet February 2015

Six weeks to go.

Quite a few bookings in The Lucan Spa Hotel but some are through Bookings.com etc so I can't be sure of who's who.

"Mickthedigger" was kind enough to send me his favourite Wicklow Mountains route. At 490km  surprise and intended for motocross bikes I think I will need to do a couple more reccee trips to see what's worth going for. Barney and Andy are you on?

I should be booking in to The Guinness Storehouse. How many are interested in doing that?

Anyone fancy Indian on Saturday night?

Big Green, Blue Barn and Wee G will all be in full fighting fettle for the weekend.

Re: Irish Meet February 2015

I did a quick tot yesterday. Between members and non-members I am expecting at least 20 G's to make appearances over the weekend of February 13/15th. Most will join the Wicklow Mountains drive on Saturday. At this stage that drive will be 95% tarmac.

Meet up at the Lucan Spa Hotel at 1000 for a 1030 departure. Lunch at The Hollywood Inn, Hollywood, County Wicklow.

Dinner provisionally booked at the Spa Hotel. Running out of time to book anywhere else for Valentines night. Menu looks tasty.

See menus attached.

No firm plan yet for Sunday. Feedback please.
