I am having a problem in switching on the lights of my old G wagon ( 460 series). The only light that works is the front offside parking light and the light switch illumination. and instruments.  No headlights, rear lights, or  fog lights.

 The electrician mentioned that he found the contacts  of the  lights switch corroded and  he had sprayed the contacts but  he thinks that a new switch may need to be procured.

I think that there might be more trouble than just the  switch ?? Perhaps the relays, or the wiring ?? Any advice??? it will be most appreciated.

 Is there a suppler that could provide this switch ?? what is the part number ??

I think there may be a fuse for the headlights.

I have not studied that the wiring diagram but I am relatively confident that electrical circuits generally are based on split circuits for safety. If a fuse is blown it should affect one circuit of head light and the circuit is diagonally spilt i.e. o/s/f and n/s/r basis and vice-a-versa.

If both headlights and rear light have failed the probability lies highly with the switch it's self. W460 headlight switches have been known to fail so this should be checked out.

Many thanks.

I shall check  out all the fuses, but It looks like that the car got wet internally ( the G Wagon Curse! and had been left unchecked so I guess the electrician's description of corroded terminals may be accurate.

The wipers are also working very slowly - one speed only- and the wash pump is either seized or the fuse is blown.

Any idea where I could  get hold of a service manual ??

Paper workshop manual if available are very expensive and I feel may not contain the sort of information you may presume it have.

M/Benz have gone to on line even the dealers have to go on line for information. You may register for the same on their service and parts portal but the requirement is, I think, you need to be VAT registered.  Otherwise the tariffs vary and the cheapest is around 4 Euros per hour or so.

you can buy the manuals here;

http://www.4x4abc.com/Mercedes-Benz.G-Class.manuals/

Else, look on eBay for a 'copy' of WIS/ASRA/EPC, which is the info systems that the dealers use.
