I trawl Ebay regularly but today entered G series which brought up 2 very interesting brochures for some of you experts, one was for a German LWB with "the longest automatic soft top" and the other looked as if the LWB roof had been lowered, looked very wide and low like a older patrol, don't say I'm the only one never to have heard of these!

Baur Cabrio XXL

Guerdeval, you've left me with the mouth watering once again! And again, may I suggest that you include the urls to the ebay offers so that we avoid wasting time in trying to find them?

Anyway, the LWB cabrio could be this one:

You can see more pictures of this amazing conversion at http://www.g-pro.de/Pictures/BAUR_G-Cabrio_XL/baur_g-cabrio_xl.html

How to turn something ugly but cool in to a pimp mobile.

Panama Jack special?

With regard to the other car, the closest I could think of is an early 300GE which was fitted with a 560 engine and had its bodywork modified to run in Bajas and the Paris-Dakar in the mid-nineties:

Paris-Dakar

BTW Paris-Dakar is on now. Only coverage I’ve found is on SKY Sports. 21:30 tonight. No G Wagens though. Some ML’s I think. Guess they are better suited to this type of event. Last night 1 and 2 were Mitsubushi Pajaro’s. The trucks are amazing things. Bikers are absolutely bonkers! VW Touregs were doing OK as well.

Or it could also be Tony Baskill's rig -though I doubt it!-:

I quite agree with you... I meant amazing.......stupidity. But curious nonetheless.

Just for the record, a 280 GE won the 1981 Paris-Dakar in the hands of Jackie Icxx. Those were the days when almost standard vehicles had a chance to win this event. Unfortunately, these days the trucks with a chance are more one-off specials than anything else!

Sorry Mortinson, I know as much about computers as I do Gwagens, do you mean I should copy out the Ebay item number and re-write it or am I missing out on an easier method, should I swop this amstrad thing for something more modern without valves? rog, (I've cracked those little faces though)

This is only if you use Internet Explorer:

Go to the "Address" line at the top of the explorer screen and copy the address (for example, it should be "http://www.gwoa.co.uk/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&t=294" for this screen) and paste it here.

After you submit the message anyone could access the page directly by clicking on the "address"
