Hello all, I live in Oregon USA, any advice would be appreciated, looking to buy my first G wagon and this is one I will be looking at in a couple of days, thoughts? Seems like a lot of money unless it is in fantastic shape. https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/5003987195.html

If that was for sale in the UK then it would be around $12,000 dollars, so $16,000 does seem a bit expensive. However I don't imagine that there are  many ex-military Wolf spec G Wagons like that one for sale in the USA.

Would it?

$12,000 is only £7,750. That seems a bargain for a soft top G.

You are correct, not many of them here, going to go down to see it in southern Oregon on Friday. Supposedly it was imported from the Norwegian Military and has complete service records. One additional question, anyone know where to get a hard top for it? The soft top is worn and it rains all the time in Oregon.importing one fro. Europe would be very expensive, but maybe the only option.

Re: looking to Buy my First G wagen

Military vehicles tend to be well looked after mechanically. However, coming from Norway, a country with severe winters and with much salt on the roads, I'd look carefully at the body and chassis for rust.

There is a company in the US who specialises in improrted military g-wagens, which usually arrived in large batches and consequently they have a better selection to look at. I can't recall it name, but many of theirs come from Switzerland.

Ah, found it:

Here you go, at least 10 of them to choose from.

Every one a bargain apparently !!!

My apologies, I didn't mean anything by my earlier comment  - although these are actually £9,540 when the VAT is added. But even so, I don't think that's a bad price for a soft top G.

No VAT if exporting outwith the EU, like to the USA where the OP is from.

The latest batch offered for sale by Jacksons look to be ex military police and in pretty good condition compared with some of the previous releases they have had which were a bit worse for wear.

Re: looking to Buy my First G wagen

Very many eons ago there was an article in the G-Wizz magazine that showed how a Club member had used the fabric hood as a template for a fibre glass rear cover on his soft top. I believe he coated the fabric with a releasing agent of some kind b4 fibre glassing it using several layers of the stuff to achieve good rigidity. A much cheaper option than an import from Germany and if painted the same colour as the fabric something that might pass as original but without its short comings

this looks a decent piece of kit but I don't know the practicalities of importing it across the pond
