Dear all,

In my search for fellow G enthusiast i came across the GWOA forum. After a long time lurking around i decided to join the forum.

I'm from Antwerp ( Belgium) and own a '89 250GD cabrio. (460.317) which a bought just a couple of months ago. Still trying to gather as much information about the fantastic G class.

Hello and welcome to the Forum,

A lovely looking G - I am wondering if there is a big 4x4 scene in Belgium? Or do you tend to venture further a field to test your diffs?laugh

Does Belgium suffer with high taxes like most of Europe when it comes to G Wagens?

Once again -Welcome

Hi Spider,

Belgium has a small 4X4 scene but it's mostly restricted to the existing 4X4 venues and terrains. Road books in Belgium, especially the Southern part, are very difficult to organize due to the Belgian law. Most of the Belgian off road enthusiasts cross the border to France ( Sedan/Champagne-Ardennes/ Calais). In the Northern part, there's not much forests left so we're restricted to the fields and country roads. (but nothing compared to the lanes the UK has to offer)

As for taxes etc. We're extremely lucky, especially if you have an old timer ( 25 years +). You can also register your vehicle as " Lichte vracht", removing the back seats making it a "work" vehicle. Taxes are about 200 Euro/annum.

Hi Quinten,

Many thanks for the info, just speaking with other G Wagen owners around the world, sometime the local taxes can really cripple G Wagen ownership!

We did have some great off roading places here in the UK, however the Eco Fundamentalist or 'fundigreenies' and 'bobble hat' Brigade ( Ramblers) have been forcing the closure of the Green Lanes - For example I live in the county of Buckinghamshire, 15-20 Years ago we had over 300+ ancient rights of way/Green Lanes/ BOATS (By-Way Open to all Traffic) and now we are down to about 15.sad Of course with the Bobble hat Brigade, forcing closure of some of the routs and not actually walking on them, has caused some of the lanes to be lost forever through lack of use, which in turn put more pressure on the ones that are still in use.

We had a fantastic one Called the Ridge Way, which started in Wiltshire, and went through Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Bucks and then connected to the Icknield Way - when I was a younger man, one could almost do the whole run (87 Miles) which was great especially with friends and some nice cool beers.

Hope to see you in the UK at one of our AGM's - then you can show us off Roading 'Belgian' style (like UK style but more chocolate and waffles laugh)

Hey Quinten, I'm from Belgium too (Leuven) but have been living in Australia now for nearly 6 years. Bought a 85 300gd 6 months ago and love it. More playground for 4wd'ing here in Australia and tax and fuel a lot a lot cheaper too

If i had to choose a place to move to it would be Australia.! What are you doing there if I may ask? Apart from enjoying the sun and BBQs.

I'll take some more pictures of the interior this weekend. I've added some OMP seats but still have the originals. Interior is pretty basic...and dirty. What's rare? Do you know how many were built?

@Prwales: she doesn't seem to have any problems pushing the weels along. They look a little bigger on the photograph too.
