Hi folks,

Having owned a G for 26 years, I am not really a new member, but returning to active service.

I took on the 1989 G230GE Auto from member woeke, in rapid fashion, as I had finally decided to get a G on the road again.  It has some provenance.  My own was a 1987 G230GE manual, but it had been CAT-D'ed in an accident and I had it sat for 4-5 years without the time, funds or inclination to repair/restore it.  When I decided to thrown money at it this year, I came across this one for sale and thought - why spend thousands and wait months when I can (spend thousands) and be back on the road this summer.   So here I am.

Good to see so many familiar names on this site.  No way can I remember who all the characters are, but the site itself has grown with so much information ~ its no less cluttered though!    My re-joining pack included a 2009 copy of the GWOA Magazine! and a keyring to match the one I still use daily (the battery and light still working).

Everything is working on my new G.  woeke did some nice work on it.  Fully expecting things to continue to need doing and to chase some of the rust patches.  It doesn't drive as softly/smoothly as my old 5-speed  manual, or as fast, but the auto is a novelty and it could be my memory from driving 10 years ago!  Any previous old owners welcome to say hi to it.

As for my old friend - my G was bought from me in 1 day by a dealer who chased me every year for 5+ years.  He was the only one, among many who offered to take it off my hands, to offer sensible money.  I hope his client is going to restore it and not break it.  It could be good again.

I like the W460 and SWB.  Simple cars and mechanics.  Practical workhorse or a classy ride. A V8 would be nice one day.

Yep!  It looks like we joined GWOA within a few months of each other back in 2004.

The G put me on the road to being a Merc man, and I have been working my way through the models ever since.

C class(1), E Class(3+1), A Class(1), SL(1), G(2)  + Saab (!)
