Hi everyone, need a new rad. Can anyone help? Re core or new? Standard, uprated, newer, better design etc please? I've had a look on eBay and they seem to be around £300. Has anyone got any pointers about the removal process as well please? Thanks!

The standard 460 radiator must be a time-tested design  - there is one factory fitted to my 2012 350CDI.

My 19year old C-class ran consistently cooler after I replaced the radiator as a preventative measure.

Your price of £300 is the best you could get in my opinion. Prices new from Mercedes are £600 plus.

I have not looked at bespoke radiators but in amongst the addresses supplied for you to try there are a few places that will make you a radiator, try them for price.

For a W463 model, note: trying to undo the oil cooler pipe from the radiator has a 50:50 chance of  shearing the radiator union that  you could end up buying a new radiator.

Make sure have correct large spanners to undo oil cooler connections, and one to brace Union on radiator, you maybe lucky, but my local rad place put my oil cooler unions in acid to dissolve the remains of the threads so did up no problem on new rad. Common issue I think. Mine was a brand new Beru rad, about £360 some years ago.

A quick bit of emergency help required please guys! So I've undone the oil connections taken off the fan shroud, top mounts, top and bottom hoses but she won't come out! I can rock it back and forth but she won't release at the botto, is it bolted in, am I missing something? The rads I've changed before have all had pegs at the bottom that have slid into recesses on the body. Any help would be great as it's getting dark! Cheers Mud

In your case the cross bar on top of the radiator needs to be uninstalled. There are two bolts at either end as well as the top bolt at the centre of bar which screws into the vertical bar going down.Lifting the cross member out of the way will gain access to lift radiator out. The bottom of radiator has two C-clips of fitted that need removal.

Northern Radiators are stockists of Hella/Bher at good prices. These are the Mercedes OEM radiators, with the Merecedes star removed.

The alternative Nissen brand are rubbish by comparison. i bought one and had to send it back. Very flimsy by comparison, and was already warped out of the box.

hi,

I have just replaced my W463 radiator, best price I got was from Luton Rads

they can get Behr (OEM) from Germany at a good price.

i would change the top and bottom hoses whilst the rad is out ,if can afford the extra fit a new water pump and thermostat.

keep kicking

Reply to thread No: 3

The answer is No. purely for different fittings and the W460 has separate engine oil and, or gearbox oil coolers where as the W463 has them in built to the radiator. If you are bold enough to go ahead to W460 radiator then you will need to make allowances to plumb in separate coolers mentioned above. Not worth the hassle.

If you want to give me your chassis number I think I have a new MB radiator, could do for £275.00 & postage. Its still in the MB box.

Thanks gents, I've ordered one from Northern radiators but it arrived damaged! New one should arrive on Wednesday hopefully. Wish I'd known about the merc one earlier! Interestingly, nearly all the recent reviews I found said go with nissens over behr . Apparently behr have switched their factory overseas and the quality has really suffered? I'll keep you posted as I'm planning an electric fan conversion while I'm at it. Cheers Mud

Hi Kevin, can you send me your details please? Northern radiators have delivered a second damaged rad. I'll call them tomorrow but I think I'll just get a refund and buy yours? I messaged at halftime because you must be watching the football like me! This Welshman really wishes he was home! Cheers Mud
