Re: shocks and springs

koni heavy track and orc coils work great together..if you are fitting taller springs the koni ht raids are longer to work with the taller springs. my koni ht on my cabrio are still like new 7 years along the line...

Re: shocks and springs
I lifting mine bout 4inches and the rear pipe is too short. Option Im tryin is to cut the mount and weld in a piece of flat. The steel brake line should should be long enough to reach with some encouragement :)

Re: shocks and springs

If I was going for an 80mm lift think I would opt for  a 40mm spring and 40mm body lift

Re: ORC shocks and springs

Just a word of warning on the body lift option. I did it and it is a real pain to do: a lot of work, but once, done I am very pleased with it as my CofG is lower - like Howard said, I wouldn't want to try an 80mm spring lift as the car might feel a little tippy off road (unless you're increasing the track a lot, which I haven't do  so don't know what it would be like).

Re: ORC shocks and springs

  HI PHILEAS

in the end i just went for the orc +40mm springs & shocks

as you say 80mm would be a bit top heavy

also with my club foot i would need a

stanner stair lift to get in laugh

Re: ORC shocks and springs

i will start with the BAD bit

pain in the ass to get in and out i tend to look for something that looks like a train station  platform

on road much better than STD with change of direction iron out the pot holes and sleeping police men

   firm but NOT hard

off road Mmmmmm just soak up everything 40mm is a lot more than you think

my LWB didn't ground once in Wales and this was after i let my tires down a bit

this was a nice touch no more cobble stone tracks shaking me to bits

      hutches  with soft tires cool

the change of the front brake pipes from rubber to metal braided has transformed

      my brake performance

and for me i like the stance it gives my G

SO OVER ALL OVER THE MOON WITH THIS SET UPyeslaugh

Re: ORC shocks and springs

Very interesting

'....much better than STD ...'

what did you have previously as 'standard' ?

is your review in comparison to the Sachs, as on 460  and early 463 or gas-pressure Bilstein, as on post 1999 ?

In my 463 I have tried Koni and Bilstein, but have gone back to Sachs.

Agree that Goodrich brake hoses are totally worth the money.

Re: ORC shocks and springs

sorry no idea of make ect

always ordered  MB dealer with VIN

THE extra long BRAKE hoses came as part of the lift kit

the orc stuff has a lot less body roll and even though firm NO drumming  still soft enough have full wheel travel

looking forward to test 2 in the quarry at graz 4 days rock climbing

Re: ORC shocks and springs

Interested that your braided pipes came as part of your lift kit. I spec'd braided pipes a while back when I was getting lots of other work done, they had to be  made up as MB apparently no longer stock them.

What a difference (along with other brake works) they made. My G can now stop!!

Re: ORC shocks and springs

ian the brake pipes were part of a ORC kit not MB they have to be longer

for the extra wheel travel cos of the 40mm lift

Sorry, I understood that. I was making the point (not very clearly) that whilst an aftermarket supplier supplies them as standard, MB appears to see no need to stock them for G's. At least not for '91 300GES's. Surprising really as I would have thought there'd be reasonable demand for them. Mine had to be made up by an outfit in Scotland.

Re: ORC shocks and springs

You can buy a set of Goodrich hoses for the G for around £70, either to standard lengths or as you specify. They are a PTFE inner with stainless steel braid and stainless steel fittings

Re: ORC shocks and springs

Hi Arnie,

Am interested in these hoses. Can't find Goodrich, but did find Goodridge. Are these what you meant?
