I decided to venture out into the wilderness the other day in the little Pinz and try and drive up a small mountain. Unfortunately the ground was still very wet and the Pinz was struggling a bit in the boggy conditions. I was on my own and was acutely aware that if I did get stuck I would be facing a 15 mile hike to the nearest road and phone signal. I took a rather crap video and a few photos to record my failure but I will return when the ground firms up and try again.

Hi Adrian

I have a 710M which I recently bought to replace my well used G Wagon and stop me breaking bits off my new Range Rover smiley.

Here are a few more photos of the long walk back when it all goes wrong.

on the SHOECKL and found them much better than the G

Re: A Pinz and 500sq Miles of Nothing.

I have to say I wish I had bought one years ago, they really are a fantastic go anywhere vehicle.

I loved my G Wagon which I had for 14 years, but it had a hard life on the hills. The G was very capable but it really got knocked about quite a bit  which was a shame whereas the Pinz is far more suited to the rough stuff.

Which Pinz did you prefer out of all the ones that you tried on the Shoeckl ?

Re: A Pinz and 500sq Miles of Nothing.

I decided to take a trip into the woods to check out the damage after the  storm last night and managed to get caught in a blizzard which added to the fun. smiley

The track through the woods to the Shepherds cottage was washed out and the cottage had been modified a bit by the 100mph winds surprise .

I Hope all our Scottish members are weathering the storms well and that you and your families are all safe and well, while we are battered by these storms

Eight wheels are better than four in the snow. Sorry about the camera angle, video selfies are harder than they look !

Re: A Pinz and 500sq Miles of Nothing.

Needa Haggalunds BV 206

I understand some of them be Steyr engined!!

So there is a strong link.

cheers

M

PS

drove a 710 through the off-road "tank" course at War and Peace a few years ago, then down the road.

Very Very Very impressive, and equally so in each case.

And Absolutly lovely to drive.(compared to a 460 "G" Wagen leastwise, I thought)

Re: A Pinz and 500sq Miles of Nothing.

The BV206 is a bit of a different animal to my Octad 8x8.

I like the Hagglunds but at 7m long and weighing 5 tons they can be a bit of a handful in tight spaces especially if you need to turn round. My Octad is small enough to fit on most of the forest trails but still has a one ton payload, it even floats if you are brave enough smiley.

Tracked vehicles like the Hagglund also require a fair bit of maintenance to keep them reliable, I wouldn't say no to one though.

The Steyr Monoblock engines fitted to the later BV206's are pretty rare beasts on the civilian market although quite a few of them are fitted with the Mercedes OM617. The majority available for sale in the UK are fitted with the Ford V6 petrol engine although there is an aftermarket Ford diesel replacement available.

I would agree with you regarding the ride quality of the Pinz, it is very smooth even at speed over rough terrain but that soft springing does make it roll about a bit on the road, but who cares about that.

Re: A Pinz and 500sq Miles of Nothing.

Sorry nothing new to see here.

This seems to have been bumped to the top of the recent posts list because it was moved from the G Chat forum to its new home in the Pinzgauer section.

Anyway here's a couple of photos. The first one is the construction  of my new shortcut through the forest and the second one is the slightly more challenging  new track I had to make up to the house, all 2 miles of it !!

Sorry about the inclusion of my Range Rover instead of  something from Graz. smiley

All yours then?  I think I am very jealous, although I used to live in Kenya!

Unlike in Kenya no lions or elephants wandering about but I do have a few of these guys to keep me company.
