Please help! Electric window failure
Hello all,
Electric window passenger side on a 230ge 1989. The window will not go up when switch is activated. The window will go DOWN but not up. I believe the switch is faulty because I can hear a slightly different sound when pressing the UP button.
Can you please advise on how I can access the buttons which are on the left and right of the auto box stick. Hoping I can run power to the UP switch and get the window up.
Any other suggestions much appreciated!!
Thank you
I think that if you pull up the rubber boot around the transfer-case lever you can then reach behind the switches and push them up and out, with wiring attached. To test whether a switch is actually faulty, you could temporarily swap round the left and right switches.
I would bet, though, that it's not a switch problem, but that the mechanism (regulator) inside the door has failed. You might wish to take off the door card and take a look.
Hi Alex, you can lift the switches out carefully with a small screwdriver, then just unplug the switches and swop them over, this will get you out of your immediate problem, you will probably fine you need a new switch, fourbyfour club in America have them but they are not cheap, hope that helps.
Worth testing the switch but it's 99% going to be the window mech/reg.
Not too bad from merc.
Hi
Not good for me
I have been using my bike for work the last 2 days.
Came to use my g wagon drivers window today and nothing. I thought switch possibly but whith the vehicle ticking over and a touch on the window switch the revs dropped a touch every time i dabbed switch. Good job i fixed sunroof setting a few months ago
Getting good at swapping motors. The longest part of the job was emptying my drivers door pocket of all the shite it had in it
Fitted motor and it works ace with a positive thud when it shuts. So glad i got both motors from America. In fact at 80 quid each i got a spare pair too just for the future. If i never use them i can always sell them
My drivers window did slow up a bit in winter but my passenger side went so slow it was about to keel over so i changed that motor a few months ago
G
So both motors now perfect. They have not done bad for 220k and they were original. I would hate to think how many times i have used the windows, just in the time i have owned the vehicle
If the engine speed drops with window switch operating, I would suggest having the battery and, or alternator checked out. If the power from a weak battery is drained by any application it is putting a load on the alternator too. Suggests a prominent battery issue looming.
That is unless there is a high resistance issue on the window switch its self.
Does this problem occur only with one window switch or does the idle speed drop with all or any window switch operated?
Its like when you flash the main beam, you hear revs drop a touch as its drawing power from alternator when engine is running
The motor had stuck and its fine now the new one is fitted. Just like new with a thud when it shuts
Happy days again
I took the old motor apart and cleaned and fitted new brushes. Its also fine again to add to my spares collection lol
