is there any such thing as an" installation survey" for the rear springs,I ca'nt find one in the club cd/manual.
I want to know if the rear springs from the back of my "scrapper" swb 300 gd 460,would work on my lwb 300 gd 460,probably not ,but it would be another few quid saved for some other catastrophe.Does anyone know

See "Free technical manuals"

The closest that I have seen to an "installation survey" on springs is page 1.1/1 of section 32.51 of the MB workshop manuals. You can download this section (Chassis or Fahrgestell) for free from the Advanced Systems website that you'll find in the following thread:

Hope this helps. Regards,

I am NOT an expert but I think they're incompatible, if it were a scrap LWB onto a new SWB it would have been OK as you would have ended up with heavy duty springs

rear springs

I've interchanged LWB and SWB springs and they had a very similar result. It's fair to say you'll get a touch more lift in the rear with LWB on a SWB, but not much. Same of course is true in reverse. I had some custom wound to the stock rate but longer and I have a lift without a stiff ride. Allows for more suspension travel too.

If its of any interest, here are some photos of the moderator of a French G Forum replacing his rear springs on an old cabrio.

thanks Maxwell

When I looked closely at the springs on the swb I found they were both like theones in the french article, broken. However a friend had a secondhand spring left over after replacing his with new,and this seems to have put me back on an even keel

I'm after front and rear spings for a 1985 LWB 300GD ( 460).

I've been quoted about £470 for MB parts.

Any suggestions of cheaper ones or secondhand ones, otherwise I think it will have to be scrapped !

Welcome rarrar

Welcome rarrar

to this your forum and thanks for making my day happy for feeling like I am helping an old lady cross the road.....

For Springs, ring Mark @ M.R.Holland. They are in the back of the front page of the G-Wizz. I paid some £ 75 for a pair of rears, delivered, about a year ago so I'd be looking at £150 for the full set.
