My G (W463 300 SWB) already had General Grabber AT2 265/70R15 tyres fitted when I bought it but the pressures seemed awfully high.

Does anyone know whet the correct pressures should be? Or a link to where I can find out (tried General Tyres website but they don't even list a G Class as an option).

Usually just driver and one passenger and not much else being carried.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

There ought to be a sticker on the back of your fuel-flap with the official tyre pressures for the standard sizes, according to loads.

If you go wider (larger footprint) and the size is not marked, reduce the pressure a little bit in comparison to the nearest tyre-size indicated. It will require some trial and error until you find what is comfortable. Also, check for even tyre wear from time-to-time.

Re: Tyre pressure help please

Thanks Arnie,

I kind of thought that but looking in the Owner's Manual it looks (to me) as though they specify different pressures for different manufacturers. The closest in sizes they list are:

104 S - 255/75 R 15 (M + S)     2.2 Front        2.2 Rear

Wrangler  Good Year - 255/75 R 15 C (M + S)     2.5 Front       2.5 Rear

Quite a bit of difference between 2.2 bar and 2.5 bar.

Not sure what 104 S is or what (M+ S) means either.

well, the (M+S) means the tyre has a 'mud & snow' rating, which actually doesn't mean much as there is no official test for this. (It needs to have snowflake or mountain symbol for guaranteed winter performance). The 'S' is the speed rating of the tyre = 112 MPH  and the 104 is the load rating of the tyre = 900 kg

as for pressures, 2.2 or 2.3 bar is about standard for the G, but I recall visiting GoodYear in Luxembourg many years ago, when the Wrangler tyre was being tested around their circuit on a G-Wagen.

Try 32psi in both front and rear. That's what my old 92 used to say on the sticker. Increase rears up to 45psi when you have max load (LWB)
