W463 WInd Noise
My G is generally quite noisy at 60 mph +
1999 W463
Majority of the noise is from front top of windscreen.. I thought it was the broken phone antenna.. removed and replaced with rubber grommet but this hasnt really helped although I think it is a bit better now.
It gets annoying on longer journeys.
There was also a fair amount of noise around drivers door but I noticed the seal wasnt quite sitting correct so removed and refitted it and now the wind noise has moved from the front of the door to the back! Maybe a new seal needed or the latch needs adjusting...
Is wind noise at front normal on this model?
My last G has such a noisy exhaust, I wouldnt have noticed any wind noise!

I noticed the two rubber belows which contain the wiring between the door and A post have perished. I was going to replace them before I decided to sell.
When driving along I noticed a draft on my legs which I suspect is because the belows have rotted away. It maybe the wind coming back into the car via the A section which is causing part of the noise .... just a thought.
You will get a degree of wind noise at speed with the G but it should not be to bad.
If you have a sunroof sometimes they do not fully close, it is only a matter of a few mm but the lack of a proper seal can let in a lot of noise.
Why not try masking tape or similar around sunroof as a temporary measure just to see if that improves it?
Mine sometimes doesn't close fully creating a noise. If I slide it open slightly (not tilt it) then close again it shuts fully
Hi,
i think it's more the aerodynamics of a G', I've owned soo many w463's all with sunroofs, g300, g400,g500's and they are all the same. It will always be there! Yes it does go quiet when you put on tilt-up mode. It's a g wagon! A square box on wheels with a flat windshield.....
the worst is windy conditions then you'll wanna drive a 40-50mph.
Cheers
You may be onto something as with the sunroof tilted up the noise was a lot less.
Will investigate.
I know that the "rest" position can be adjusted by setting it at the motor in the rear so maybe its a tooth or two out.
