32 11.5 15 or 33 10.5 15

I know, another tyre question... But this time specificaly for a bone stock 290 gtd with fast axles, 120 hp 280nm low down torque and 4 speed auto tranny...I want to put orc springs and bigger tyres on the 290 gtd
I don't want to change gearing or such...
I really want to fit the 33's (33 10,5 15) but i'm not sure if the truck will still go ok? Will i feel much difference in real life? A little less rpm would seem welcome and the engine feels plenty strong now.
The other option is the 32 inch (32 11,5 15) which is an aproved diameter for this truck by mb (albeit in 235 85 16)
Now my truck has factory 31 10.5 15 size and i want to keep the rims.
Any thoughts on this?
Thank you for your input!

Re: 32 or 33

Hi G,

I think you'll find 33"ers too highly geared. The reason I say this is because I put a set of 255/85R16s (i.e. 33" diameter tyres) that I had lying around on my 300 TD (177BHP/350NM) and took them off again to settle for a smaller diameter as the engine always felt a little strained during high gear driving (low gear was fine by the way). Try going for the 32" tyres on your 290 TD.

To answer your other question, if you go for the bigger diameter, the car will feel sluggish off the mark and relatively inflexible during motorway/a-class road driving. You'd probably end up turning up the fuel pump (i.e. overfueling slightly) to compensate. I can't explain it any other way except to say, my 300TD just never felt right: acceleration and starting off the mark whilst pulling a trailer just seems so much better with the 'smaller' (but still bigger than ex-works) tyres.

Whichever way you go, would be interested to hear your opinion on eventual tyre size choice.

Re: 32 or 33

Hey ph,
I am convinced that 32 s are the best compromise, but the only 32s for 15 inch rims are 11.5 wide
And i dont know if these are ideal on 7 inch wide rims and if there will be any rubbing?
Another advantage with 32s is that i dont need to lift the truck right away...
But i feel the lwb G needs 33s to look right to me...
Dilemma!
G

Re: 32 or 33

33 look good and chunky, as well as ground clearance, but with the tyre choices I've had in the past, I believe 32 are the best compromise.
