Both don't work, will go down but won't go back up, I've had them off several times, ceaned and lubed the cable cleaned ths armature and brushes on the motor all to no avail,  Has anybody had any success with these things, or should I bite the bullet and put keep fit winders in.
Cheers Gordon

Hello Gordon,

If the windows go down and do not close, could mean the window switches, these are prone for carbonising on the contacts. You may try and dismantle to clean the contacts but this is a very fiddley job.

Hi
follow up to above....  pop the switch out of the console GENTLY remove wires and clip them with a clothes peg to avoid losing them into the depths of the console... lever one side of the cap over the anchor pin at the side  .apply switch cleaner (sparingly) push cap back over the pin.. exercise from the centre position left and right for a few sequences.. plug the wires back on the switch a operate up and down ...*** note if you are heavy handed and let the cap come completely off you will get pins springs ball bearings and the bulb in your hand or on the floor so be gentle

Re: 460 Electric Front Windows

Tried power direct to the motors they go up and down perfectly, so the problem is lack of amps, also the windows only work with the doors open so theres a relay on the auxilliary circuit goosed.

Has anyone got the relevant bit of the wiring diagram or some advice where to start looking,
Thanks in advance for any info

Gordon

Re: 460 Electric Front Windows

Hi
your vin number build specification shows that the electric windows were factory fitted !..
most likely problem is poor earth / ground continuity....check the earthing points close to the centre console   one large cable links body to chassis under drivers side floor then a cluster of earths ( brown wires ) are located in the lower centre console and high above the accelerator pedal behind the dash..it will mean loosening the pole nuts and cleaning each terminal end ..remove and clean the interior light switches in the doorframe as the are grounding points...... there are other earth clusters on the inner wings and n/s chassis frame close the where the rear bumper attaches    for your windows run a test wire from the negative post of the battery to the brown connection on the motor and operate the appropriate switch ..this will help prove the theory
