Just so i can start another topic!!
I have stripped both of the rear hubs and they are missing the adjuster plate and retainer springs from the auto adjusting mech ( does state in some literature that some cars do not have auto adjust???). The rest of the unit is fine and cleaned up ok , I just need the plate and springs. Is any one breaking one or have these bits or know a supplier?
I hope the plate and unit is a std across most MB units of this age and its just the rest of the drum caliper shoe combo that make it stupidly expensive. Then i can go scrap yard hunting.

Re: 460 Rear brake auto adjuster

Hi GIB
the adjuster assembly has a toothed wheel and a small fitting that interfaces with the lower slot int the brake shoe .this fitting can sieze and as a result the toothed wheel cannot be rotated for final adjustment....  what parts are you missing ?

Re: 460 Rear brake auto adjuster

Just got some time to mess about on the truck and the part that is missing is the metal plate that pivots on the 2 pins and by its action rotates the auto adjust wheels which in turn extend and adjust the shoes. If you go on the inter truck site its the plates that have 515 stamped on them . Obviously i don't have the springs but we have a fair few boxes at work so i will try and use some thing i find.       So

Does any one have the plate or a spare axle that i could caniblise ?? or worse case a source for these parts . I thought i did have a source in germany but she refuse to deal wit a non resident, so help some one

The part i need on these has the number 186 painted on it.

There are many other sources in Germany that are export-friendly, just to name a couple, they should be able to help you if you provide your VIN and description of the parts, or photos of the parts, or just part numbers:

Re: 460 Rear brake auto adjuster

Minor update managed to get hold of 2 new auto adjusters and have fitted them.

This may be a trick of the trade or another head scratching moment and wallet buster.

The only way i could get the rear shoe to set ( the one you set by reversing and then braking ) was to get the G facing up a steep slope and then roll / reverse back and then step on the brakes after the 5 trys this seems to set them perfectly. On the flat getting speed and momentum up was a bit tricky and the G just stoped with out the brakes seting.

So can any one confirm this is a good way of doing it or has the bais adjuster gone south???? Seems to brake fine with no dive or roll .
