Hello,

I`m thinking to swap w463 axle differentials from one defective after accident axles to another empty axle pair.

Wanted to ask, how to do it properly? I have told that there is special instrument to aline it correctly inside in from local MB dealer etc.

After googling I found that special instrument seems to be:

instrument

Is this? I don`t know name, but it`s not hard to get. So what is special instrument only dealer has to swap diffs?

Maybe somebody has done it and can write me correct steps to do it? :)

Thanks!

Re: Axle differential swap

It looks like a standard DTI ( Dial test indicator) gauge to me......used to check bearing end float and crownwheel backlash

Don't you need an axle spreader to remove the diffs? Someone must have the factory info on this? Any tolerances not right and diff's will not last.

Re: Axle differential swap

I have seen in Jeep documentation that it is needed to use for taking out diff for adding locking diff system. But in reality I have seen specialists done it without axle spreader to remove the diffs... :)
