Quick question, I need to replace my brake hoses and diff lock hoses as they are starting to perish and I wondered if they are the same or similar (fittings, sizes) as I wanted to fit braided hoses. For instance could a spare braided brake hose kit be used to replace the diff lock hoses to each axle?
Thanks in advance
Dougie

 It may cheaper to take your old hoses to a hose repair shop like www.pirtek.co.uk and have them make the hoses with industrial quality materials, I've used them many times and they are very helpful. They do supply braided hoses and most fittings.

I'm sure David Watkins has some Goodridge brake hoses in his emporium (the club shop) still.   It might be worth contacting him.   The diff lock hoses don't have to take anything like the pressure, so I would not bother to change them unless they are either leaking or are really on their last legs.

You can contact Goodridge and they will make them very cheap by return of post. They will help you if you don't know exactly what you want.

Thanks for the info. I think I will replace the diff lock lines anyway as the next MOT isn't too far away and I thought an eagle eyed tester may fail it for perished hoses even if it is for the diff locks.

Re: Brake and Diff lock hoses

Hi,
I bought a brake pipe kit to do the diff lock lines (£35 on internet, copper pipe, flanging tool etc) and found it very simple to do myself having never done anything like this before. Easy enough to bend pipe into correct shape etc and  was very pleased with no leaks and all working. Evenings work. Might do the brake lines at a later date as still have plenty of pipe left and now some practice!?!
Anyway, I was pleased...
Cheers,
Stewart

Re: Brake and Diff lock hoses

Club shop has them I believe.

Depends on if you have twin hose front calipers or single hose front calipers (460).
3 hose system you can buy a 5 hose one.. fit one of the spare hoses to the rear diff.. and throw one away (keep for later!)

Front diff hose is different and longer .. so far not changed mine but Goodridge etc will do anything for a price..

My notes from a few year back (this has been posted on here at least once ;-) );
www.goodridge.net Goodridge part number for 460 SS brake hose SME0801-5P

Mercedes G Wagon 463 1991> B SME0800-3 Brake hose kit
Mercedes G Wagon 460 / 461 chas 055306 / 903695 B SME0801-5 Brake hose kit
4 front + 1 front .. but my 1989 has on 2+1 lines
for a 3 hose 460 buy the 5 hose kit, fit one to rear diff lock and throw one away (rear of 463 is a different short hose to a 460)

Pirtek are a supplier .. look under hydraulic fittings/hose suppliers… or E-bay for brake lines;
GOODRIDGE BRAKE LINE KIT MERCEDES G WAGON £38.95
Mercedes G Wagon 460 461 Goodridge Braided Brake Hoses £55.95
Mercedes G Wagon 463 91- Goodridge Braided Brake Hoses £33.95
