Brake shoes, relining
Gentlemen - do we know anyone out there who will reline brake shoes? I see from a 2011 thread that it is not altogether straight forward. Gav was a mine of information as ever!
Custom Brakes in Sheffield did mine, sure they have a website.Though obviously if you post them, probably about a week turnaround?
They can relign, but I got the MB kit ( Thanks Gav) you could ask at truck garages but ones I spoke to said the rivets too small for their tools
Are your shoes really bad? My handbrake was bad but upon stripping found handbrake levers seized solid, though with new everything in their, don't forget new Brake spring pack, handbrake is amazing.
Hi Alan
I assume this is for the 463?
If so....
Hand Brake Shoe Lining Kit A602 423 65 10 £27.10
Hand Brake Spring Kit A601 421 00 92 £11.80
Brake Drum A601 423 50 01 £57.50 each
Wheel Cylinders A011 420 88 18 £41.20 each
All retail + vat
Linings are from Germany, the rest is UK i think...
If it's a 460 i need to know which make of Shoes etc it has, the above is the Mercedes Benz type and are the same as the late 460's the early 460's have a PERROT system with different parts.
PM me if you need any more help
Gav
You could ask either your local motor factor who could have the linings revited for you or ask a local Mercedes Comericals garage to revit the linings instead; I am sure they would do the same for the light vans they service.
Dont think you will find even many MB CV dealers that will reline?
No relineable shoes on the vans since the t1 ended in 1995 and they wont see many of those.
All 1995 on Sprinter etc were rear disc and the handbrake shoes have bonded linings and you just replace the lot.
A brake specialist or trailer company are your best bet for riveting
The new lining kit comes with the rivets included from MB

Why reline ?
460 rears are same as T1 van [Perrot type]
Shoes are easy to source at sensible ££ on internet search
Hi Tony
Good point for the early 460's upto 1987 ish they are mainly PERROT type and as MB no longer supply the lined shoe kit at circa £50 exchange then that would be an easier option.
The PERROT and MB type shoes are near identical to look and are physically the same size shoe
The MB shoe has an extra sliver of steel at one end which i have seen both...
ground off to fit the PERROT set up
and the PERROT type made up with weld to fit the MB set up
I guess niether should be recommended and the correct shoe type would be preferable?
The shoes are stamped on the side with either PERROT or MERCEDES BENZ and you can also tell which type by the Hand Brake cable fixing method as discussed in other threads
