My 1999 G500 (W463) came with a Becker 'Audio 10' fitted as standard in the dash; I've acquired a Becker 'Audio 30' which was fitted as standard in some W463s as an upgrade. The Audio 30 fitted in place of the original radio easily enough and everything, including the CD changer work ok. Sound quality is definitely better too!
However, the volume controls on the steering wheel don't work any more and the in dash display also doesn't show what's playing on the radio either. Also, when headlights are turned on, the radio panel doesn't illuminate.
The replacement radio came from an SL500 of similar vintage and, in the meantime, I've replaced original radio  . . . .
Has anyone any knowledge/experience of this issue? Maybe the replacement radio has a faulty module?
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Car Radio Problem

Probably it's only a matter of incorrect connection. Have you checked that the cables connect to the correct pins in the new radio?

Thanks Mortinson. Hope you're right - managed to find circuit diagrams for both radios on internet but, unfortunately one is in English, the other in German . . . . . . makes it more of a challenge!

Re: Car Radio Problem

Are you sure its not the soft settings in the head unit?
I changed a becker in a 968 and once plugged in you had to go through the menu to select night iliumination level, and external control options. Personally i would try to reset the unit back to factory settings.
Pin allocation did change a bit around that time especialy the 'gala' or 'K' lines ( audi names). Colours should be green with trace (white or yellow) for the 'Gala / K' and yellow or white for the night illumination dimmer.
