Converting rear drum brakes to disk on 463
Will it be possible to convert the existing original rear drum brakes to disk brakes?
Would the ABS system also need to be modified ?
Would the braking performance improve or make no difference? whatsoever
Any idea of the cost involved?
These crazy guys do a rear disk conversion that means that the abs works! but its POA.

Also at 4x4 club in the usa he sells a kit to swap your fronts for g500 vented items. $1500 for everything if i remember correctly
I am in the process of sorting a custom AP racing kit for the front. it it 6 pot with 365mm disks so needs the 19" rim. it will cost about £1800 when everything is fully done and wont affect your abs. but it will stop you quicker.....................
i believe ORC also do a conversion kit.
With the ORC kit you lose the ABS function oof your rear brakes. Question, what happens with a road going vehicle that then goes in for its MOT/ NCT test with ABS not working?

Mike
in a nutshell speed, the high performance G's need rear discs.
our membership sceretary did the ORC brake converiosn on one of his 463 off roaders, it was a waste of money in his eyes, put the drums back on it if i remember.
Rear drums were fitted so the handbrake would hold a heavily laden vehicle on a steep slope. Different brief to most vehicles.
G55's and similar high speed "G"s are rarely used offroad

Mounting kit for disc brake, rear axle available for all models -1999, not for cars with wheel bolts, no more ABS, Mercedes G
brake discs, brake calipers, wheel bearings, hand brake ropes, brake shoes for hand brake and all required small parts (without brake adapter). 1.582,70 EUR
How I understand with TUF sertificate, so official EU sertificate to trust tuning.
The car will most probably fail the MOT. I do however wonder why Mercedes has opted for this brake configuration, I'm sure there must be a good reason for it other than cost. Chosing druns over disks for the rear wheel must have some significance, although all other MB 4x4 models have disks all around. Any suggestions ????
