Hi All,
I am currentyl running a 1990 280GE petrol automatic and am finding that the fuel consumption is very heavy. Has anyone any experience of this vehicle and could tell me what level of MPG to expect
(especially around town) or has anyone suffered similar problems.

Thanhs very much

Tim

Re: Excessive fuel consumption

Any one think it worthwhile to stick an eighteen year old 300ge into a Bosch service/ tuning center to try to improve running / consumption ?

Re: Excessive fuel consumption

Hi
if you can find one that can tune an eighteen year old engine by hand/ear !!  as the modern computer does not have the parameters for the CIS Jetronic manual management adjustments..

My 1983 280GE is worse still.  Cold starting was grim so a local garage enriched the mixture (after completing the MoT).  Cold starting much better, consumption much grimmer!  Next step - an independent in Salisbury (PFK Engineering), who are proper engineers and always more helpful than you could possibly hope for.  They have saved me HUGE amounts with advice, albeit for my CLK55 Cabrio, over what I would have paid if I had taken the advice and "service" offered by MB Salisbury.  I will let you know what magik they manage to weave on the 280GE - when they do.
