I have been looking at a few G-Wagens and have narrowed it down to two, the first one is an old 81' with a non-original 3L turbo diesel engine replacing the original 3L Diesel. The 2nd one is a 3L Diesel 91' in very good condition but it has 230k miles on the clock. Im particulary worried about the one with the non-orignal engine even though it seems to drive well or Should I be worried about the high milage of the other one ? What does anyone think ? Cheers

What sort of price are they?

230,000 miles on a merc diesel IF it has been regularly maintained and not driven hard is still not that much. If you do a trawl, you will see plenty of merc diesels, in particular ex-taxis with 600,000+ miles!

An engine transplant if not done properly may pose lots of problems... especially if it is the original transmission as they were not really designed to cope with the stresses of turbos.

But there are others here who can advise you better than I.

It does really depend on how much you want to spend cash wise and how much time you want to spend driving it or working on it. As Jesus says ,a properly maintained 3L diesel will last for many miles. Put a turbo onit and drive it hard and it will blow up quickly.

I would recommend the '91 .But it's too difficult to judge without more info.
