Looking to replace Bridgestone Duellers 686 265/60x18.  Mostly road use, comfort needed for dog's old bones.  Can't replace with like for like as these not available in the UK.  Not dedicated to Bridgestone, so what would you recommend?

Thanks.

ps - not changing wheel size!

So you're not stuck to one tyre size (just the 18x7.5 rim)? Lots of choices out there.
One tyre shop in Dubai fits a lot of Gs out with Michelin Latitude, or you could even go with the standard AMG 55 fitment, Yokohama AVS S/T Type 1, great grip on road, not sure about the wet though, but if they qualify as factory fit for the G55 then I'm sure they're up to the job.

i'm currently on Toyo open country H/T, don't know if they're available where you are
same standard size, very soft/comfortable ride, imo
great if you rarely ventures to the sharp rocks

Re: Tyre advice please G500 on 18"

hi onelab,

with regard to your tyre choice, i just happened to have read a report on the new general AT tyre. It is strictly speaking an all terrain tyre, but apparently is a lot less noisy than the old AT2 and very good in the wet. Like the bfg ats, these are great allrounders as they're basically a rated mud and snow tyre: good for a muddy field in the winter as well but really not to be used for 'mud' work. i've never tried the generals, but wanted to shod m g with them in the spring but didn't simply because they didn't have the size i wanted. apparently the new at is available in many more sizes than the old ones. you might want to give these consideration.

good luck/ph

I had Continental 'Contact' I think. 265/60-18. Good tyres but didn't last long

Just to add, I've used a different General tyre for the past few years (Grabber UHP), super on-road grip, but alas doesn't last very long, and not tested off-road. Also nothing special in the snow.

Re: Tyre advice please G500 on 18"

I've attached a table showing various tyre options. The numbers eg 8.8 are from a reputed tyre reviewer (the higher the better), the number alongside eg 1st, 2nd etc.. is where they were placed in the review. The 'X' means they are available in that size. LT = light truck. Red script is the sizes I was looking at. Hope this helps.

But there's life in the old one yet!    Same reasoning applies to keeping our old Gs and Spiders on the road.

The spreadsheet is great, but can you let me know if gearing will be adversely affected by putting on either a 65 or 75 profile. i'm using 255 55 18's at the moment. Thanks

Yes the gearing will be affected. Going from 55-65 is quite a change

Try the link and you will see how much affect it will have.

Re: Tyre advice please G500 on 18"

pearmund,

with regard to the gearing, if your question is whether the 500's performance is adversely affected, I can only tell you that I'm running with almost 33" tyres on mine and the engine/brakes can cope easily with them. Even when we tow or off road, we've never found that the engine runs out of power/torque. Hope that helps/ph
