Hi guys I know this has probably been discussed many times, but reading previous posts there seems to be a few part numbers for the front Steering damper.

This is to go on a G350 td (463) sept 1995 LWB.

4634630032 (50mm)-1465 kg  New damper ??
0004636632 (50mm)-1456 kg Old damper ??

Which is the best one?, is there any real difference in performance?

Hi Gooch
the old damper 000 463 60 32 is lighter in construction and has smaller bolt holes in the bushes....  used on 460 series.... the other number is good for your application it is called a shock absorber by MB.......

Re: FRONT Steering Damper 4634630032 or 0004636632??

Given that my hands on experience and knowledge over time is being diluted; from what I know of these steering dampers (s/damper) that the W460's originally came with one spec. of s/damper, the thinner one of the two dampers currently available.  The price of the unit at the time was £60.00.

After the W463 came out, we saw a second damper introduced, the thicker one and its price almost doubled to £120.00.  The second damper eventually came with a conversation bracket to fit the W460 as a option to replace the original damper; basically the latter damper was heavy duty and longer lasting.

Depending on the mileage you do, if you do a smaller mileage, then I would choose the thinner of the dampers, but you have mentioned that both the dampers are of equal diameter, what is the price difference?  If none, then, all Mercedes Benz are doing is changing their part numbers, which is something they often do, for reasons unknown to me.

What is the difference by M/Benz, what do they say?

Sorry, not much help.

There's a nice summary of sizes and numbers on this page, admittedly from a few years back, so it might well have changed.

Thanks! Very useful to compare them over the years. Last time I think I paid about £70 for 6632 (3 years ago?).
