Its good that the amount of info on here means its hard to search for specifics,

but the other side is , can some body please give me the size and type of fitting required to undo the above plugs. I need to change the fluids in both boxes, hoping like the difff's its just a 14mm hex but as with most G stuff i will probably be hoping after the job is done.

Hi it would help if you mention the model/year/etc.
I've done it on a 1991 463 300GE auto, the transfer case was the same as the diffs and the big allen key in the toolkit (14mm hex), but the transmission wasn't as straightforward, as I wanted to change the filter as well (you might as well do them at the same time) so I took the whole pan out. A number of small screws need taking out to get the pan off, plus the gasket is probably worth changing if it is old and hardened. There is a drain plug in the pan but can't remember if it's the same as the others, I'd assume it is, being Austro/German engineered!

Nahh,  it would be boring if i gave all the info at the start in a sensible manner.

1984 300GD M2. Manual 4 spd

Thanks for the info by the way more than likely 14mm for both then. Also why is there an option of fluids? I am just putting 80ep back in but it mentions that i have to speak to a stealer to find out what fluid was in there originaly . What other option was there???

Another step on the road to recovery , thansk to Fixwin and M2dXb. Last night drained the engine , transfer and gearbox oils. All of them where dirty and old but no subtantial particals and a 5 min wash of th engine filter provided no horror stories. So that is all the fluids swaped out. Except the lockers and clutch may play with them next week.

I also greased all the proprshaft joints, but think they will need a couple of attempts as the grease is not coming out of all shells. But some new grease is better than none!

Does any one have a source to get the correct bull nose tip for greasing the nipples as i had to use a std grease nipple set up , no hastle just would be a bit quicker with the correct tip??

Most welcome!
I get such things from my local hardware/tool store, not the big chains (B&Q etc).
Otherwise why not try the wonderful internet:

From the link thats the std kind of grease nipple which i am used to ( work in a factory so have plenty). On the props i have the low profile ones that need a special adaptor if you want to use them. Does any one know where to get this conical adaptor??
