Hi Guys

i have been a off road nutter for some time, and was always very impressed with the performance and charm the G wagons did there  thing ( trial competition )

so when ever i should buy a car, it should be a G

as my main modus off transport is a motorcycle , and a compagny van as back up.

recently the comagny van has broken down, for me with snow on the road , a kick start to get a G wagon

a little to soon, as i really wanted to have a bigger budget , but it will do ..

i got 2 right hands and many years off experiance as a mechanic

i have a eye out for a few G's ,  was to late for a very nice one adverticed .

looking for a petrol first choise, GE280  SWB  or GE230 SWB  ( to be converted to LPG )

basicly, i really don't like paying 1,80 a liter for fuel , off road use yeah i think so , but main transport will be just road

2e choice the 300GD,

i'm looking around , going to look next monday for a few , and hoping to make a deal soon

so i can drive a G

kind regards, Martin

Re: Gheee

Hello Martin and welcome to the GWOA

What have you been using for your off road stuff to date and where are you located? Good luck in your hunt for a G, I would highly recommend that you ask loads of questions about your intended purchase with the guys and gals on this forum as there can be some real dodgy ones out there and there is tones of experience here.

Martin

Have a look at the 300 GD SWB 1990 (its blue) in classifieds.

Have been in this one and it goes well, has been in long term ownership and is an honest car.

Re: Gheee

if you do buy a diesel, stick to the smelly stuff or vegetable oil as ghee will clog everything upwink

Re: Gheee

hi Guys,

thanks for the welcome...

i think i know this forum by hard,  have been reading allot  there is to know about G's

so i know a little about the weak points and what to look for

Off road experience

well you know

checking left side

checking right side

and check the temperature off the water

you know the usual stuff wink

made many big off roaders cry with the little stock LJ80 ( i was competing  in the national championship a few years )

will not do that with the G ( case your wondering )  this kind off abuse, is very hard for the material

i'm based in the Netherlands,

and set my mind a little to LPG , pure basic a budget decision , the fact the car is road tax free and LPG is only 0,77 cents the liter, will make up for the fuel consumption

but can well be i change the engine in a later stage,  when i have more to spend, for now wheels and a roof over my head is prio one ,

to morrow i'm going to look for a very nice preserved G230 , pictures looks like it is is in pristine condition, if it looks to good to be true it usually is , but from for me the best one in my +/- budget i have seen

fingers crossed

Re: Gheee

LOL

every ones in a while we needed to blow out the fuel tanks...

test drove a G230 to day,  very nice one, only a little blister on the wheel arch,

interior very good condition,  expensive ( on the top off my budget ) but no rust !!! Left tail light was repaired and body completely new paint job, a good one i might ad !

but the ride... the 230 will not cut it for me everything below 50 mph and 3 gear is fine

but the struggle from 50 and up to 62 mph,  i could not reach 75 mph because i run out off road , and it sounded like i was killing the engine, engine did run fine, but this is just not cut out for me.

Monday driving a 280, will be a lot better i think, little body work to do, but technical sound , and fitting my budget better

Re: Gheee

i almost gave up ,

the most in my budget i was looking for where to far gone ( rust )

or / and not normal to drive, body / drive line boom at 50 mph , or way to slow for the engine size

did found one ... no G but officially a Puch GE230 LWB 5 speed , with a official engine replacement for a M102.980 engine

still minor rust spots , was to be expected , but the rest in good condition , easy to repair

so bottle off ML and body coating ordered, and some RX5

my pride and joy

gr, martin

i'm very happy with it
