Hand Brake Cable source ???
Can anybody help please?
My hand brake cables are completely seized and I need replacement.
Vehicle is 1986 SWB 230GE (W460)
The Mercedes EPC system lists lots of different ones as they were modified and revised over time, but the local M-B dealer is asking for a reference number off th eold cable (no chance after 24 years!!!)
We tried Brakes International, and though very helpful, do not have in stock and could take several weeks.
Needed urgently as vehicle is out of action and much missed
Does anybody have any suggestions?
give franco a shout...

Hi..
My cable went on my 85 300GD. The reference they needed was off the rear hub - which could still be seen as whilst there were a couple of variations (I think basically Merc or one other), the hub indicated the variation.
To be clear the variation was all part of the original spec. It was just a question of wether the brakes were merc's own, or ones they had brought in from another specialist brake supplier - a part of the vehical being made by Puch I guess.
Of course yours might be different, but the part came the same day from Merc for mine - despite being the 'none' merc one and was not horrifically expensive - I think the Merc version was a lot more though.

Hi Splatt
MB have stock in Germany of all the series Handbrake cables identified by the VIn/Chassis number WDB 460......(17 digits) of your G' I have p/nos for the 463 but not the 460 last pricing was GBP 58 and GBP 67 for both sides....
Unfortunately took about 8 weeks earlier this year for one to arrive from MB, about £70 ( tho this was a 463 Cable)
Hi,
I replaced bothe my hand brake cables last summer - they cost about £70 each and took around a week through the local Mercedes dealer. Used the VIN to identify he appropriate part number.

This is another part that you can have made locally.
You need to find your local cable maker (if I have one in Dublin, then you must have one too).
You need to remove the entire cable assembly including anything and everything that has broken off, fallen apart etc..
Bring it to your local cable fabricator.
Most important part is where the cables enter the rear brake drum.
At least 2 different types. Bring all the parts with you or save those bits for re-use.
Open to correction by more experienced members.
Eddie.
I had a pair made up by a specialist.
They are fine but the cost was almost the same as MB !!
Carriage to send originals to specialist as a pattern, carriage back and then they where not a perfect match when they arrived so a small mod had to be made.
If I had costed the agrivation in I would have gone to MB.

Thanks for the tips. I will get my mechanic to check the brake drums/backing plate for numbers - MB parts said to look on the actual cable.
