Hi all.

1987 280GE Manual

Had rear shoes re-lined (because of astronomical cost of replacements from MB) and something seems to have gone wrong in re-assembly so need help / advice! Work done at local garage (NOT 'G' savvy). Basically the automatic adjusting mechanism seems to be the problem. They assure me they've followed the instructions I downloaded  from 'clubgwagen' to the letter but although all seems well each time I collect the truck, within 20 or so miles one or other of the rear wheels is binding sufficiently seriously to cause smoke. Today was the 3rd attempt. It's not the handbrake as far as we can tell - plenty of slack at the lever. Is there anything they could have done wrong or failed to do to cause the adjusting mechanism to malfunction?

Needless to say, no such problems (10yrs in my ownership) before they replaced the linings. Everything was contaminated with oil from leaking axle oil seal (seals and bearings replaced) so the adjusters were removed and cleaned along with everything else so could it be that the adjusters themselves were somehow re-assembled incorrectly - if such a thing is possible??

Anyone got a clear diagram of the assembly so's we can check springs etc have been put back correctly??

Any ideas gratefully received.

Chris
