Hello all

I'm thinking about swapping the transfer box on a G for various reasons. Just want to know any one's ideas/experiences on the difference that the mass damper fitted to some models on the rear output flange does or doesn't make? Any one with a G (older 280 for example) without the damper that has vibration problems? Any one who has fitted one and noticed a difference? Thanks, cheers Scott

Re: Opinions

I thought they only came on diesels... I have one on a 1988 300GDS.. so many other vibrations I could not tell the difference I suspect!

Quick bit of EPC work finds it to be A 460 410 03 47 "Vibration Damper from transfer case to rear axle"

Used on 460 312,317,322/3,325,328,329,332,333,337/8,343 which are 250/300 GD models only in lwb and swb

Used on 461 312/3,317/8,325,347/8,349. Also 250/300GD models only

The SWB 100mm prop like mine is A460 410 69 04 or 46 04.. both 566mm long. Used on 250/300GD only

A SWB 100mm 2,8 manual prop is A460 410 45 04.. so offically you need to change rear prop at the same time.

I suspect it would do no harm; the diesels must set up a resonation frequency which the rear prop is susceptable to.... the petrols are smoother and hence do not create the vibration/resonation... but it can but damp a little.. will also make the car accelerate a very little amount slower (extra rotational mass to accelerate).
