Rear Door - Wiring
hello
i have just swapped the rear door on my swb 460 and i think the new door must have been off a later model. on the 460 the wiring loom enters the door in the join between the hinges on a spring loaded conduit.
Does any one know how the wiring loom is fed into the door on later models, a foto would help?
Thanks,
James
Hi James
two types of rear door loom
early 460 (up to 85) loom was permanently exposed at the door hinge side (came out of the quarter panel as a loop and then into the doorskin through two holes and rubber grommets. some had two looms (one lower down the door skin)..later 460 / 463 a spring loaded spiral tube housed all the wires and extended and retracted through a ferrule in the door frame..the spiral tube is clamped inside the door and hooked to a spring inside the trim panel adjacent to the N/s wheelarch....if the spiral tube breaks the wires will become trapped in the door frame when the door is closed and eventually short circuit as a result ....the loom is mated to a multipin socket near the rear seat base....
Here is a link to a post on our AGOA forum which also has a youtube link that might help.

nice to have the link, here is a step further on with a link to a LR site chatting about the merits of G-wagen ownership

thanks Fixwin - then it appears i have an earlier door - i shall make a hole and retro fit the spiral tube.
