I've just fitted a superb (nearly new) Crewe rebuild engine (bought from another GWOA member via this formum) into my 1986 230GE, but I need to refurbish the brake master cylinder. I can get a new one for about 200 Quid, but I have found out that there is a repair kit "available" for less than a quarter of that, and my cylinder itself is fine.

Although I live in the Netherlands, my G is right-hand-drive. There is a subtle difference between the right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive kits, but the latter will also fit with minor adjustments.

Question is, does anyone have any suggestions where I could try to get one? It's easiest in the UK because there, RHD is default. I've tried Brakes International who have it in their catalogue, but say they can "no longer supply".

Vehicle details:
WDB46023827047780
230 GE
1986

Thanks for all the response thus far.

Any pointers would be very welcome. Reply here, or to g-wagen@carpediemmedia.com

Thanks

Andrew

Re: Repair Kit for 230GE master cylinder

Hi Andrew

I assume you mean the Brake Master Cylinder?

These repair kits look to be available still from MB Germany

I could do with the chassis number and also the part number from the plate on the master cylinder

I dont think there is a difference between LHD / RHD but there is early and later types that are not interchangable

MB Germany have both types listed on the EPC though i can't price as they have not sold in the UK for a long time

Re: Repair Kit for 230GE master cylinder

EPC only lists that part number A005 430 21 01 as fitting the 461.401 / 402 / 403 chassis

basically the 250GD / 290GD German Army Wolf vehicles

It does not list for the 460 series at all

Hi
the rhd and lhd units are different in as much as the plumbing interfaces on opposite sides..not the end of the world of you have access to a pipe fabrication facility than can produce without a pattern....RHD cost best part of £200 (limited sources)  LHD around 60 pounds
*** there is some "old stock" in lhd ( possibly ex military) about that  will have date aged rubber components which may reduce the serviceability time frame....

Re: Repair Kit for 230GE master cylinder

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I need a BRAKE master cylinder repair kit for:

WDB46023827047780
230 GE
1986

Brakes International cannot supply the kit. They can supply the entire cylinder for over GBP200 plus postage, but I want to avoid that expense as there is nothing wrong with the cylinder itself. I would also prefer to keep the RHD original than (I know it can be done) modify a LHD one.

Thanks for all the response thus far. I'm bidding on the e-bay one because if I can get that one at a good price, it's worth my while, but I'd still prefer a repair kit for my current one.

Thanks for all the response thus far

Best

Re: Repair Kit for 230GE master cylinder

Hi Andrew

There are two repair kits listed on the MB EPC.

A000 430 29 83 which fits master cylinders numbers A004 430 10 01, A004 430 12 01 and A004 430 14 01.

and

A001 430 03 60 which fits master cylinders numbers A004 430 28 01 and A004 430 29 01.

This depends on what master cylinder is fitted and that depends on what servo is fitted.

Your chassis should have left the factory with servo number A003 430 02 30.

The master cylinder should be A004 430 29 01.

This is assuming that it is still as it left the factory and has not had a servo or master cylinder changed before.

Both the servo and the master cylinder should have a plate on them with the MB part number and the manufacturers part number on them.

It would be easiest to get these numbers off the units rather than assuming it is as it left the factory.

Other servo numbers are.....

Early types.....
A002 430 23 30 ss to A002 430 55 30 LHD
A002 430 55 30 ss to A002 430 37 30 LHD
A002 430 37 30 LHD
A002 430 24 30 ss to A002 430 73 30 RHD
A002 430 73 30 ss to A002 430 36 30 RHD
A002 430 36 30 RHD

Late type.....
A002 430 90 30 ss to A002 430 99 30 LHD
A002 430 99 30 LHD
A003 430 02 30 ss to A003 430 06 30 RHD
A003 430 06 30 RHD

Other Master Cylinders are.....

Smaller Diameter "8" Early type.....
A003 430 97 01 RHD ss to A004 430 12 01 fits A002 430 24 30
A003 430 98 01 LHD ss to A004 430 12 01 fits A002 430 23 30
A004 430 10 01 RHD ss to A004 430 14 01 fits A002 430 73 30
A004 430 12 01 LHD and RHD fits A002 430 23 30 and A002 430 24 30 and A002 430 55 30
A004 430 14 01 RHD fits A002 430 73 30

Larger Diameter "9" Late type.....
A004 430 28 01 LHD fits A002 430 90 30
A004 430 29 01 RHD fits A003 430 02 30

Hope all this helps and does not confuse you more!
